This year’s climb carries special significance as we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Together, we honored the first responders and all those who lost their lives that day, while remembering the courage of those who ran toward danger to help others.

We are grateful to Amherst College Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s Hockey, and all of the student-athletes who participated for continuing this meaningful tradition and ensuring that the sacrifices of 9/11 are never forgotten. Today, on September 11, we remember. We honor. We never forget.

Beginning at 6:00 a.m., several of our officers climbed the stairs at McGuirk Alumni Stadium in remembrance of the first responders who climbed toward danger on September 11, 2001, doing everything they could to save as many lives as possible. This event was put on by the Minutemen Battalion of the Army ROTC. Those participating were Lt Arocho, Sgt Griffin, Sgt Wise, Ofc Y. Feliciano, Det Carroll, Ofc A. Clark, Ofc Sirbu, Lt Lang (ret), Ofc Laramee (ret), Recruit Downie, Recruit S. Daly, and Recruit Hauschild. UMass Army ROTC

Following the stair climb, our officers joined the Amherst Fire Department, the UMass Police, and other members of the community, at AFD North for the annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony to honor the lives lost and the sacrifices made that day. Amherst Massachusetts Fire Department

Later, we were honored to attend the First Responders Luncheon hosted by the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce in the Mill District. We are grateful to those in our community who continue to recognize the sacrifices of first responders and who remember the incredible unity that brought our country and our communities together in the aftermath of such unimaginable tragedy. AMHERST AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The Mill District

Today and always, we remember those we lost, those who answered the call, and those who continue to carry their memory forward.

This afternoon, our officers will join Amherst College Lacrosse for a stair climb. Amherst Men’s Lacrosse
