On September 5th, the Amityville Police Department received a call for a male resident experiencing difficulty breathing. Upon arrival, PO Bryan Burton, alongside the Amityville Fire Department Rescue Team, encountered Bill Witchey, owner of Combs Bait & Tackle and a longtime member of our community, in severe medical distress. Bill was visibly discolored and struggling to breathe.
Through their swift response, professionalism, and first-class medical care, PO Burton and the AFD Rescue Team were able to provide critical medical assistance and ensure Bill was transported to the hospital for further treatment.
In an emergency like this, every second matters. Their quick actions and immediate medical intervention were instrumental in getting Bill the help he desperately needed. Without their rapid response and exceptional care, the outcome could have been tragically different.
The Amityville PBA is incredibly proud of PO Burton and the Amityville Fire Department Rescue Team for their outstanding efforts and dedication to protecting the lives of those in our community. Their actions are a powerful reminder of the difference our first responders make every single day.

Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed.
We remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives who were taken from their families and loved ones. We remember the brave members of law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and countless civilians who ran toward danger while others ran to safety. We remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
We also remember the days and weeks that followed—when our nation stood united, neighbors stood beside neighbors, and the American spirit shined brighter than ever.
The Village of Amityville was not untouched by the tragedy. We continue to remember and honor Peter J. O’Neill, Jr. and Louise Lynch, two members of our community whose lives were lost on that tragic day.
As members of the Amityville Police Benevolent Association, we carry a special responsibility to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting others serve as a lasting example to all who wear the badge today.
25 years later, their names are still remembered. Their sacrifices are still honored. Their stories will never be forgotten.
May we always remember September 11, 2001—not only for the tragedy we endured, but for the courage, compassion, and unity that followed.
Never Forget. 🇺🇸
