It is with heavy hearts that all of us at the DPOC mourn the passing of labor icon Dolores Huerta.
From humble beginnings in New Mexico to California’s Central Valley, where she co-founded the National Farmworkers Association, her career fighting for working families, immigrants, and the disenfranchised spanned decades. Her indomitable force and singular personality will never again be replicated in California.
Dolores’ courage over the past year speaking out against sexual abuse and naming the crimes of powerful, revered men will leave a legacy of honesty and speaking truth to power and giving hope to every woman and girl who has felt silenced.
We are proud to have our annual labor award named after such an amazing individual and offer our deepest condolences to her family and to the so many who were touched by her powerful spirit.
“Si se puede!”
