Today, we pause to remember and honor Deputy Dirk Ray Knearem, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on October 17, 2004. Deputy Knearem was killed in an automobile crash on State Highway 73, at the intersection of State Highway 124, near the Chambers County-Jefferson County border, while responding to another vehicle crash. Deputy Knearem had served with the Chambers County Sheriff's Office for 2 years and had been in law enforcement for a total of 16 years.

As we observe this anniversary, Sheriff Hawthorne and the entire Chambers County Sheriffโ€™s Office extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and all who continue to carry his memory with them.

Because nothing builds trust faster than realizing your local deputies run on the same amount of coffee as youโ€ฆ which is a large amount. ๐Ÿ˜†

The Chambers County Sheriffโ€™s Office has received reports of citizens receiving calls from someone posing as the Sheriff or a CCSO Deputy in an attempt to commit fraud.

Please remember, CCSO will never call and demand money or payment to avoid an arrest, warrant, or other legal action. Do not provide personal or financial information over the phone.

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact the Chambers County Sheriffโ€™s Office directly at 409-267-2500 to verify the call.
