Learning Through Tradition and Community Service…
This week, our 5th-grade students prepared jarred fish, learning the traditional process from whole fish to filleting and jarring. They also made devil’s club salve. Both projects are part of their community service project, and the finished products will be shared with Elders in our community. We are proud of our students for learning traditional skills while giving back to those who mean so much to our community!

Celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day…
We held our first Family Night of the year in partnership with the ASD Indigenous Education Department. Our activities and potluck celebrated Indigenous Peoples’ Day and brought families, students, and community partners together for an evening of cultural learning and connection.

Activities included NYO games, Hand Games with West High School students, beaded earring making with the Ts'tq'u program, devil’s club salve making, akutaq making, and tegumiak making with the CITC Fab Lab.

Quyana to everyone who helped make this event a success! Thank you to our partners, volunteers, staff, and families for sharing their time, knowledge, and traditions with our community.

Celebrating Coach Ward!
We also celebrated Coach Ward and her dedication to the ANCCS badminton program! Ms. Ward was awarded a $2,000 VOYA grant recognizing excellence in education. These funds will help enhance our badminton program, including improving the court lines. We are grateful for her commitment to creating opportunities for our students and helping them grow through athletics!

Wrapping Up the First Quarter…
Today marks the end of our first quarter! While students enjoyed a day at home, ANCCS educators were busy putting the finishing touches on quarterly assessments and grades. Staff also enjoyed a baked potato bar lunch and time together as colleagues.

Taking time to gather, connect, and celebrate our work is always special in our ANCCS community. Thank you to our educators for their continued dedication to our students and families!

Attendance Matters! Less Than 8 Is Great!

Every day at school counts! Did you know that missing just 2 days a month adds up to nearly 20 days of school a year? That’s almost four weeks of lost learning! Being here every day helps students build skills, make connections, and stay on track for success.

Congratulations to Our Ayaruq Winners!
The Ayaruq for the best overall class attendance last month goes to… 🥁 1st Grade and 5th Grade! Way to show up and make attendance a priority! Keep up the great work!

Our students showed up with their school spirit and ANCCS pride! Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make it a great week!
