Why does food cost so much—and what could make it more affordable in Alaska?

Join us at UAA for a free, interactive public forum with three leading food economics researchers: Craig Gundersen of Baylor University, David Ortega of Michigan State University, and Nicholas Li of Toronto Metropolitan University. They’ll share insights on food insecurity, grocery prices, and the challenges of getting food to remote northern communities before opening the conversation to your questions.

📅 Friday, October 9
📍 Rasmuson Hall, UAA
🍽️ Light food and refreshments at 4:30 p.m.
🎤 Public forum from 5–6:30 p.m.

Everyone is welcome. Please register using the link on the flyer. Registration is free and helps us plan for food and seating.

UAA students are also welcome at the professors’ earlier research seminars in RH 303:

• 11 a.m.–noon: Nicholas Li, The Costs of Extreme Remoteness (and How to Reduce Them)
• 1:15–2:15 p.m.: Craig Gundersen, Addressing Food Insecurity in Alaska
• 2:30–3:30 p.m.: David Ortega, The National Food Affordability Crisis

We hope you’ll join the conversation!
