Like hard data?

If you've ever looked for proof of what Alaska's election system does for Alaskan voters, look no further.

-Races are closer across the state.
-Alaskans get to choose from more candidates.
-Voters have replaced incumbent legislators more often.

TLDR: More freedom, more choice, and more power for Alaskan voters.

Post-Reform, Alaskan Elections Are More Competitive

10/05/2026

Less than 30 days until the election!
Which means we're getting questions about vote counting, and we have answers.

The Alaska Division of Elections allows ballots to be received up to 15 days after Election Day, provided they’ve been postmarked by Election Day. This allows voters like Alaska’s overseas military members to have their votes counted.

That 15 day period is simply Alaska law, ranked choice voting has no bearing on it. RCV does not delay vote counting in any way, in fact it ensures that the runoff process is instantaneous once the ballots have been counted because.

More info here from two of Alaska's most experienced election officials, including the former State of Alaska Director of the Division of Elections:

The state can accelerate reporting through straightforward reforms that have nothing to do with repealing ranked choice voting.

Over 63% of Alaskans have chosen not to register with any political party.

And those voters don't slip through the cracks or get shunted to the sidelines.

Because Alaskans use open primaries and ranked choice voting to ensure every voter is heard clearly, regardless of party.

The data is in.

Alaska's 2026 open primary saw more Alaskans turn out to vote in a regular primary election than it has since 2014.

It was the 4th largest primary in state history.

Alaskans are more than their political affiliation.

That's why Alaska has open primaries and ranked choice voting, to ensure the power is held by the voters, not political parties.

1947.
That's when Alaskans came together to decide how they wanted to vote.

And they chose an all-candidate primary.
Open primaries aren't new, they're Alaska tradition.
