Today, September 25th, is National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims. A day to remember the lives lost, support grieving families, and raise awareness of the resources available to victims and survivors in our community.

This September VFJ is raising awareness through coffee sleeves! We have partnered up with different coffee stands throughout Anchorage to help share this important message. This Friday, visit one of the coffee stands mentioned below, snap a picture of your drink and coffee sleeve, and tag both the coffee stand and VFJ.

The Crime Victims Fund (CVF) is the primary source of funding for services that support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, trafficking, and other crimes. Yet today, the CVF is dangerously low, putting critical, lifesaving services and victims’ lives at risk.

Communities are already feeling the impact. Programs have been forced to reduce services, lay off staff, and, in some cases, close their doors entirely. Without immediate action, communities will feel less safe, and more survivors will be left without the support they need to heal, rebuild their lives, and get back to work.

The Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act ( ) offers a bipartisan, commonsense solution to stabilize the CVF using non-taxpayer dollars, ensuring continuity of services while Congress works toward a long-term fix.

The House unanimously passed the bill, and now, it’s time for the Senate to do the same! Survivors can’t afford to wait!

"I have yet to meet a grieving person who does not harbor some feeling of remorse over something left undone or unsaid in the wake of losing someone they love. It is only natural that this happens, yet it is also one of the underlying causes of anxiety". - Claire Bidwell Smith, LCPC
