Good information here from the Alabama Emergency Management Agency on the FEMA Disaster Declaration Process.

Please note at this time, there is no direct FEMA financial assistance available to individuals. And there are some major “ifs” that have to be answered before we know if, when or how much FEMA assistance is coming:

*IF there’s enough damage, FEMA joins local and state experts to do a joint preliminary damage assessment.

*IF that joint preliminary damage assessment shows the damage meets the federal threshold, the Governor requests a federal disaster declaration from the President through FEMA.

*IF that request is approved, the declaration will spell out which counties are eligible and for what kind of assistance. This may or may not include direct financial assistance to individuals.

This process takes time to complete. The fastest way of getting help is to dial 2-1-1 or text your ZIP code to 898-211.

🚨 HURRICANE WATCH – COVINGTON COUNTY 🚨

Covington County has now been placed under a Hurricane Watch as Tropical Storm Isaias continues to strengthen and move toward the northern Gulf Coast.

A Hurricane Watch means hurricane-force winds are possible within the watch area, so now is the time to finish preparations and remain weather aware. The National Weather Service continues to express increasing concern for impacts across our region, including damaging winds, heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and the potential for tornadoes.

Covington County Emergency Management encourages residents to:

* Secure loose outdoor items and check generators
* Charge phones and backup batteries
* Make sure NOAA Weather Radios are working
* Have medications, food, water, and other emergency supplies ready
* Continue monitoring official forecasts and local updates

Please remember that the forecast can still change. Do not focus only on the center line of the forecast track, as impacts can occur well away from the center of the storm.

Covington County EMA will continue monitoring Tropical Storm Isaias and will provide additional updates as conditions and forecasts change.

📲 Please share this information with family, friends, and neighbors.

Stay weather aware. Stay prepared. Stay safe.

🌧️ WEATHER UPDATE – TROPICAL STORM ISAIAS
Covington County Emergency Management continues to closely monitor Tropical Storm Isaias as it strengthens in the Gulf.
The latest forecast indicates that Isaias is expected to strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall somewhere along the northern Gulf Coast later this week. Confidence is increasing that this could become a significant hurricane as it approaches the coast.
For inland areas such as Covington County, the probability of tropical-storm-force winds has increased, with the National Weather Service currently indicating about a 30–40% chance across inland portions of our region.
The earliest reasonable arrival of tropical-storm-force winds is Friday morning into Friday afternoon, with the most likely arrival Friday evening.
Residents should also be prepared for the possibility of:
- Strong winds and power outages
- Heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding
- Tornadoes within stronger rain bands, particularly Friday into early Saturday morning
- Rapidly changing conditions as the storm approaches
At this time, do not focus on the exact forecast track. Impacts can occur well outside the forecast cone, and adjustments in the storm’s track and speed could change the impacts we experience locally.
Now is the time to make sure your emergency supplies are ready, check generators, charge devices, and make sure your NOAA Weather Radio is working and has fresh batteries.
Covington County EMA will continue monitoring the storm and will provide additional updates as new information becomes available.
Please remain weather aware and rely on official sources for updates.
