Meet 2027 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship finalist Wyatt Thompson of Alexandria-Monroe High School!

Wyatt's high school experience reflects a strong commitment to hard work, mentorship, and service. He has worked with young athletes through the Alexandria Community Center, volunteered his time maintaining church property so resources could be directed toward other ministries and charities, and served as a peer tutor helping classmates gain both understanding and confidence.

Wyatt plans to pursue an engineering-related field, with interests in chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, and aerospace technology. His application reflects someone who values perseverance and making the most of opportunities while also using what he has learned to help others. He hopes to carry that mindset forward through college, his future career, and his community.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship (LECS), administered locally by the Madison County Community Foundation, provides full tuition, required fees, and up to $900 annually for required books and equipment for up to eight semesters at an eligible Indiana college or university.

Two Madison County students will be selected as 2027 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars and announced in December. Each finalist not selected as a Lilly Scholar will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Madison County Community Foundation.

Meet 2027 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship finalist Owen Garber of Lapel High School!

Owen has demonstrated academic excellence while taking on leadership roles in athletics, school, and his community. He has served as a basketball team captain and FCA leader, volunteered with youth basketball camps and community events, and participated in Be The Majority, encouraging young people to make healthy choices regarding drugs and alcohol.

Owen's application consistently reflects the importance he places on character, faith, hard work, and treating others with respect. He is considering studying business, finance, or engineering and would also like to continue playing basketball or golf in college. No matter the path, Owen hopes the legacy he leaves is one of kindness, strong character, and being someone others can count on.
