Halloween Stagecoach Ride Next Saturday

Our funeral tours will culminate with a special program and stagecoach ride on Oct 31, the actual day that Henry Fanthorp passed away. Many period-dressed mourners will gather for a special service and procession at 1:00pm. There will also be special tours, gravestone carving demonstrations, and the return of Henry Fanthorp's Templar sword.

Funeral Tours Begin Today

The inn has completely transformed in honor of the anniversary of Henry and Rachel's passing in 1867. Atop of Henry's coffin we have placed replicas of his masonic sash and apron. Fanthorp was a member of the Knights Templar, his templar sword will return to the inn for three days only next weekend.

TODAY our friends with the Grimes County Historical Commission are hosting a special Sunday in the Park event from noon to 5pm at the Anderson Historical Park.

Bring your blanket and lawn chairs and enjoy a variety of cultural performances throughout the afternoon.

Funeral Tours Next Week

Starting next Friday Oct 23 and continuing for the following two weekends, join us for special funeral tours of the Fanthorp Inn. The site will transform in honor of the anniversary Henry and Rachel Fanthorp's passing in 1867. Black curtains, draped mirrors, stopped clocks and much more await you.

This will culminate with a special funeral program on Oct 31 where staff and volunteers will gather to host a service for the Fanthorps.

Return visitors to the inn might notice some new advertisements hanging in the public areas. In addition to the broadsides about circuses, solar lantern shows, and wanted criminals we now have two more for real events that happened in our area during Fanthorp's heyday.

One advertises a theatrical production in Houston in celebration of Washington's Birthday. The other invites locals to attend a barbecue dinner in Navasota in support of the Buchanan/Breckinridge ticket in 1856.

Thank You to everyone who came out for our stagecoach day yesterday!

A sold out crowd of students from across the area spent the day riding the coach and participating in period games and activities. A special thank you to our friends from San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site , Star of the Republic Museum , and Sam Houston Memorial Museum & Republic of Texas Presidential Library for setting up activities and demonstrations for the children to enjoy!

We will be running our annual funeral tours during the last two weekends of the month, this will culminate in a special stagecoach day on Oct 31 from 11am to 3pm. Get your tickets now!

Thank you to everyone who came out for our Volunteer Event yesterday!

We started off with some training sessions in the afternoon, introducing our recruits to the Fanthorp story and volunteering basics. Then we capped off the night with our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner where we discussed upcoming projects and events.

The night concluded with an awards ceremony for our volunteers with the most hours worked in the past year. Kyle Jones was made an official Fanthorp Innkeeper with a total of 191 hours at the inn with 140 being earned in just the last year! Kyle along with fellow Innkeepers Debby and Rusty McLaughlin were also made the first recipients of the Fanthorp Century Club award all three earned over 100 hours at the inn in a single year!

Thank you so much to all of our volunteers for their hard work and dedication! We truly appreciate it!
