We are working toward a more fire resilient Angel Fire! Complete the short Angel Fire Interest Survey. Your participation can help guide future planning efforts focused on reducing wildfire risks and improving forest health in our communities!

Do you own property in or around Angel Fire? We want to hear from you!

The Cimarron Watershed Alliance (CWA) is gathering information from local landowners to help identify and prioritize potential wildfire risk reduction projects throughout the Angel Fire area.

Your participation can help guide future planning efforts focused on reducing wildfire risks and improving forest health in our communities.

How can you help?

Complete our short Angel Fire Interest Survey! It takes approximately 5–10 minutes, and your responses will help us better understand landowner interest and potential project opportunities.

Take the survey here:
https://www.cimarronwater.org/afcpp

Together, we can work toward a more wildfire-resilient Angel Fire!

Please note: Completing the survey does not guarantee project funding, implementation, or assistance.

Black Lake Prescribed Burn - Public Tour RSVP

Burn organizers will be hosting a public tour of a prescribed broadcast burn in Black Lake, NM. This will provide an opportunity to see the burn area, hear about safety and how they are mitigating the chance of an escape, learn more about fire ecology and how prescribed fire in the Southwest improves community resilience, and see active prescribed burning operations, including firing and holding (depending on weather and other factors).

The field tour date is weather-dependent and will be scheduled for either late October or November. The tour will likely take place on the Wednesday of the burn week and will likely be scheduled from 10AM to 1PM.

Dry conifer forests in the Jemez that experience high-intensity fires are not growing back. Instead, the burned areas are converting to a whole different ecosystem of grasses and shrubs.

A new study – published in August by New Mexico researchers – predicts that only 25 percent of those forests may be left in less than 100 years.

This shocking potential for permanent forest loss, and the ways we could work to prevent it, pose questions that require looking both backward and forward in time – questions modern practitioners of dendrochronology are working to answer through the stories of the trees.
