Joint Training Night!

Tonight, firefighters from Washington Parish Fire District 5 (Angie) and Washington Parish Fire District 6 (Varnado) came together for joint training on forcible entry, practicing techniques for inward- and outward-swinging doors using mechanical advantage.

While forcible entry may not be a skill we use every day, when the time comes, every second counts. Training together helps us sharpen our skills, work as a team, and stay ready to serve our communities when it matters most.

Thank you FETA for coming out and facilitating out training!

ANOTHER FIRE PREVENTION WEEK TIP:

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.

🚨 FLEET FRIDAY — RESCUE 51 🚨

This week, we’re highlighting Rescue 51, a 2000 Freightliner FL60 with a unique history and an important new role in Washington Parish Fire District 5’s fleet.

Originally serving as an ambulance for a fire department in Florida, the truck was purchased by St. Tammany Parish Fire District 11 in 2006 and later sold to St. Tammany Parish Fire District 7.

In November 2025, Washington Parish Fire District 5 purchased the truck and began giving it a new purpose.

Rather than continuing its life as an ambulance, we converted Rescue 51 into a service and rescue support truck, designed specifically around the needs of our district.

Rescue 51 carries a wide variety of equipment, including:

Larger sets of hydraulic rescue tools and jaws

Additional ladders

Additional SCBA air packs and bottles

Salvage and overhaul equipment

Portable scene lighting

Generators and power equipment

EMS equipment

Rehab and firefighter support equipment

Traffic and incident support equipment

A large assortment of tools and equipment for extended incidents

Rescue 51 gives our firefighters access to equipment that simply cannot be carried on our engines and tenders. Whether we’re working a serious vehicle accident, structure fire, large-scale incident, or extended operation, this truck allows us to bring additional resources directly to the scene.

What started its life as an ambulance has now been given a second life serving the citizens of Washington Parish.
