With the newly received Cohort 13 grant, SCLC is now hiring for multiple positions. We have openings for the following:
Before School Program Instructional Assistants-Fremont, Hamilton and Prairie Heights
After School BASE Camp Coordinator-Hamilton Jr. High

🎉 Registration Info Below! 🎉

Steuben County Literacy Coalition (SCLC) is excited to announce that we have received **21st Century Community Learning Centers (Cohort 13) funding** from the Indiana Department of Education!

Thanks to this funding, we are expanding our **FREE before and after school programs** at Fremont, Hamilton, and Prairie Heights Community Schools! 📚✏️

✅ Open to students in grades K–8
✅ FREE programming
✅ Academic enrichment and homework help during after-school programs

📅 **WHEN WILL PROGRAMS START?**

We expect to begin welcoming students within the next 2–3 weeks! **Registration is open NOW!** After registering, you will be contacted with your child's official start date. Please do not send your child until you have received confirmation.

🌅 **FREE Before School**
- Monday–Friday | 6:30–7:30 AM
- Location: Fremont Middle School
- Open to all FCS students in grades K–8
- Transportation to the elementary school provided after the program
- Breakfast available for purchase afterward

- Monday–Thursday | After school–6:00 PM
- Location: Fremont Early Learning Center (911 W. Renee)
- Open to all FCS students in grades K–8

- Transportation home available beginning November 2 for students living within the district

🎉 **Exciting News for Steuben County Students and Families!** 🎉

The **Steuben County Literacy Coalition** is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a **Cohort 13 grant** through the Indiana Department of Education's 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) initiative!

Since the 2008–2009 school year, we've proudly partnered with local school districts to provide high-quality before- and after-school programming that supports academic achievement, encourages creativity, and helps students grow and succeed.

📚 **18 years of programming!**
⭐ **92% of program outcomes met or exceeded!**
❤️ **Strong school partnerships that make it all possible!**

**What does this new grant mean for our community?**

🌟 **Fremont Community Schools Hamilton Community Schools, Prairie Heights Middle School and Prairie Heights Elementary ** will benefit from expanded programming through our newly awarded **Cohort 13 grant**, providing additional opportunities for students to participate in academic support, enrichment activities, and summer learning.

🌟 **Metropolitan School District of Steuben County** will continue receiving programming through our existing **Cohort 12 grant**, ensuring students and families continue benefiting from these valuable opportunities.

Together, these grants allow us to strengthen and expand our reach, helping even more students across Steuben County access engaging, supportive learning experiences beyond the traditional school day.

We are incredibly grateful for our dedicated school partners, staff, families, and community supporters who have helped make nearly two decades of programming possible.

Carlin Park BASE Students learned about archaeology this week. They dug for artifacts (chocolate chips) in chocolate chip cookies. And finished up the week creating fossils of different dinosaurs in play dough.

Hendry Park BASE Camp had Blue Heron Ministries, A Land Trust come to our September Family Night. We learned about native plants, how seeds are dispersed in nature, and got a chance to help separate the seeds from the chaff on some of the native seeds Blue Heron plants. We had so much fun, thank you Blue Heron Ministries!

Hendry Park BASE Camp completed the paper chain challenge! Students got one sheet of paper and had to work together to make the longest chain. We used different ways to connect the chains (glue, tape, staples) and thew in a challenge (only use one hand, no talking) to really get them thinking.
