Food Gatherers' work isn't possible without our amazing network of partner agencies who run food pantries and meal programs all across Washtenaw County. We were honored to host some of our partners at our agency open house today and take them behind the scenes to learn more about food banking and food rescue.

The staff and volunteers who run these programs are full of compassion and empathy for our neighbors who face hunger, and make such a difference for the nearly 60,000 people that we serve annually.

We're grateful to work alongside so many wonderful organizations who share our belief that food is a basic right. Together, we're working to end hunger here in Washtenaw County 🧑πŸ₯•

This International Chef's Day, we are grateful to have three amazing chefs running our Community Kitchen. For Scott, Amy, and Chris, their job isn't just about providing meals, but using their talents to provide comfort, stability, and hope to our neighbors facing hunger.

Every day they craft meals from scratch with a team of dedicated volunteers. At a traditional restaurant, ingredients are ordered based on the meals being made. At our Community Kitchen it's the other way around. These three create beautiful and nutritious meals based off the ingredients they get through Food Gatherers' food rescue program. We are so grateful for their creativity and quick-thinking which allows our neighbors to have variety in the well-balanced meals they receive.

Please join us in celebrating Scott, Amy, and Chris this 🧑🧑🧑

Food Gatherers is proud to announce that Harvest Market - Ann Arbor is our newest retail partner! We began rescuing food such as meats, produce, dairy, and much more from Niemann Harvest Market towards the end of July. They've already donated nearly 7,400 pounds of food, or the equivalent of around 6,200 meals for neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

A huge thank you to the first Harvest Market in the state of Michigan for supporting the fight against hunger!🧑πŸ₯•

The Michigan Agricultural Surplus System (MASS) is a vital program for farmers, food banks, and community members experiencing food insecurity.

MASS is a state-funded program that provides grant funds to the Food Bank Council of Michigan (FBCM), who then purchases surplus produce directly from Michigan farmers, and connects it to food banks like Food Gatherers.

We are grateful to partner with FBCM to help support local farmers and increase access to nutritious food for our neighbors facing hunger.

A big thank you to one of our longtime volunteer groups, Ford Motor Company! These eight individuals spent an entire day at our warehouse sorting and packing food from our rescue program, such as fresh produce, prepared foods, and dairy products.

Together, they saved more than 4,200 POUNDS of nutritious food for neighbors experiencing food insecurity. We're so grateful for companies like Ford for their continued support of the fight against hunger.
