The NOVA Police department is pleased to share some exciting news for our department and the NOVA community. Effective November 10, 2026, Sergeant Stephen Allen will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Allen currently serves as the campus sergeant at the Annandale Campus and has also helped strengthen our connection with the community through a very special partnership with Fiji, our department’s first therapy K-9. Together, Lieutenant Allen and Fiji have given students and employees another welcoming way to connect with NOVA Police and have helped demonstrate that community policing is about much more than responding to calls—it is about building relationships, creating trust, and being present for the people we serve.

In the new role, Lieutenant Allen will continue working with the patrol team alongside Fiji while also taking command of the Community Outreach Team. This expanded responsibility will include supporting college-wide events, coordinating community training and outreach opportunities, and helping our department continue finding meaningful ways to engage with students, faculty, staff, and our surrounding communities. And, of course, Fiji will remain an important part of that work, with Lieutenant Allen and Fiji visiting students and employees not only at Annandale, but across all NOVA campuses.

Lieutenant Allen has already been actively involved in outreach efforts, including campus drug take-back activities and department-wide community initiatives. This new role gives us an opportunity to build on that work and continue making NOVA Police an approachable, visible, and trusted partner throughout the College.

Please join me in congratulating Lieutenant Stephen Allen on this promotion. I look forward to seeing Lieutenant Allen and Fiji continue connecting with our community and helping us strengthen the relationships that make NOVA such a special place.

Sergeant Allen and K9 Fiji were proud to participate in the Student Life Mental Health Event at the NOVA Annandale Campus! We were excited to partner with the Office of Wellness and Mental Health and Care Teams to promote awareness, share resources, and emphasize the importance of mental well-being.

We believe that supporting one another starts with checking in, starting conversations, and reminding each other that no one has to go through life alone. Together, we can help break the stigma and build a stronger, more supportive community! 💚

🐾💚 Learning, serving, and making a difference—together!

Sergeant Allen and K9 Fiji had a paws-itively wonderful time visiting a local Girl Scout Troop and helping the girls work toward their Animal Helpers Merit Badge! 🐕🎖️

The Scouts explored the incredible bond between people and animals and learned about the many important ways animals help us every day. From working and service animals to loyal companions, animals play a special role in our homes, communities, and lives.

K9 Fiji was excited to be part of their hands-on learning experience and show just how special the human-animal connection can be! 🐾

We’re proud to support our community’s young leaders as they learn, grow, and discover the amazing things animals can do.
