We are saddened to learn of the recent passing of our former colleague, Delegate Carolyn J.B. Howard, who had a long and honorable record of service to the people of Prince George’s County and the State of Maryland.

She was a leader in the Prince George’s County schools for 25 years before turning to politics. Delegate Howard represented Maryland’s District 24 for three decades in the House and served as Deputy Speaker Pro Tem from 2007 until her retirement in 2019.

Delegate Howard was a longtime chair of the House Democratic Caucus and served on a wide range of committees and subcommittees, taking a special interest in transportation, expanding economic opportunity, and civil rights.

Her commitment to public service and steadfast advocacy for her community leave a lasting legacy. Delegate Howard will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her and work with her.

Today, we remember 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years later, we remember the lives lost, the courage and sacrifice of first responders and ordinary citizens alike, and the lasting impact of a day that forever changed our nation.

House Bill 2100 is good for Maryland. Here’s why:

📜 It makes clear what our Constitution means by “legislative district,” eliminating any ambiguity.

✏️ It ensures Maryland can play by the same rules as other states when drawing congressional maps.

⚖️ It allows future redistricting cases to go directly to the state Supreme Court when time matters most.

Without this bill, Maryland risked tying its own hands – unable to respond as other states make decisions that affect our lives and threaten our rights. Ambiguity in our Constitution would have left Maryland on the sidelines of a great national debate about the direction of our nation and the future of our democracy.

We refuse to sit on the sidelines.

Not when families in our state live with fear and uncertainty. Not when public servants face consequences simply for doing their jobs and standing up for their communities.

I’m proud to stand with Governor Moore and President Ferguson in signing House Bill 2100 into law. But the work doesn’t end here. Any change to Maryland’s Constitution ultimately belongs to the people.

In November, voters will have the last word on this matter and that’s exactly how it should be. I urge my fellow Marylanders to help protect our state’s interests by voting in favor of these changes.

Today, the House voted to advance HB 2100 — a proposed constitutional amendment that would give Maryland voters the power to decide whether to clarify the standards for congressional redistricting.

Next stop: the Senate.

If approved, this question will go directly to Marylanders on the November 2026 General Election ballot — where the final decision will belong to the people

The House has been clear on this issue from day one.

These are unprecedented times — and this work matters.

We refuse to stand by while other states attempt to diminish the voices of Marylanders in Congress.

We are here to meet the moment.

With the primary results now certified across all 24 Maryland jurisdictions, we are proud to congratulate our House Democratic nominees.

Every vote deserves to be counted accurately, and we appreciate the care election officials took to complete the certification process. Throughout the country, while they face vicious and false attacks on their integrity, election officials and poll workers continue to show up and do the work that matters.

Congratulations to all of our nominees on earning the trust and support of Maryland voters. Campaigns require long hours, deep commitment, and countless conversations with the communities you serve. Thank you for the hard work you've already put in—and for your willingness to continue serving.

Now we turn our focus to November. With Democrats running in all 47 districts across Maryland, there is important work ahead. Together we'll continue making the case for leadership that delivers results for Maryland families.

Congratulations, and onward to the general election!

Where's the Speaker? Everywhere.

Baltimore County → Baltimore → Anne Arundel → Montgomery → Prince George's

A full day on the road with our Delegates at 14 polling locations across the state and we closed it out with sunshine and even brighter smiles.

Whether you voted in person, by mail, or absentee, thank you for casting your ballot and making your voice heard!

And a big shout out to all the poll workers and volunteers who make our elections possible!

06/19/2026

A day to celebrate, to reflect, and to remember how far we've come-and how much we still carry forward.

Happy Juneteenth!
