As we celebrate the third anniversary of Dewey’s Gotcha Day on November 1, we are reminded of just how much joy one little cat can bring to so many people. What began as a tiny, sick kitten found outside the Library has grown into a story that has touched hearts throughout our community and far beyond.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been part of Dewey’s journey over these past three years. Whether you have supported him through donations, special gifts, kind comments on his Facebook posts, purchases from his merchandise collection, or visits to the Library to spend a little time with him, please know how much you are appreciated. Your kindness and affection have made Dewey a very special part of our Library family and our community.
We feel incredibly blessed to have Dewey as an ambassador for the Library, spreading happiness, bringing smiles, and reminding us all of the special connections that can grow in the most unexpected ways.
Now, we would love for you to become an even bigger part of Dewey’s story! In celebration of his journey, we are inviting the community to contribute original artwork and personal stories for a special community project: a “Dewey Book.” We hope this collection will capture the many ways Dewey has touched lives and the memories people have made with him. Information about how to participate and share your contribution can be found at publiclibrary.cc/dewey/book.
And for those who would like to take home a little piece of Dewey, he is also offering “Dewey Paint Kits!” Each kit includes an 8" x 10" canvas featuring Dewey, along with paint and a paintbrush so you can create your very own masterpiece. The kits are just $10 each. While we encourage pickup at the Library because of rising mailing costs, shipping is also available.
Best of all, every penny raised from the sale of the paint kits will go into the Dewey Fund to help cover his food, litter, and veterinary care. Your purchase is another way to help us care for the little fellow who has brought so much happiness to others.
From all of us at the Library (and, of course, from Dewey himself), thank you for being part of his story. Your generosity, encouragement, and love mean more than words can express. We hope you will continue to follow along, share in his adventures, and, most importantly, come visit Dewey soon. We would love to see you!
