We are proud to recognize three members of our agency whose swift actions and commitment to protecting the people in their care made a life‑saving difference this month.

Corporal Kenneth Taylor and Sergeant Jesica Fleming received the Life‑Saving Medal after responding to a life‑threatening medical emergency inside the Calhoun County Jail. They immediately recognized the severity of the situation and acted without hesitation, administering critical care when every second mattered. Their professionalism, courage and compassion reflect the highest standards of our Corrections Division and serve as a reminder that protecting human life is at the core of their duty.

Weaver SRO Deputy Chris Williams received the Commendation Medal for his quick response at Weaver High School, where he noticed a student in distress and stepped in to provide lifesaving assistance. In the middle of a busy cafeteria, his alertness and sound judgement ensured the student received help right away. His actions demonstrate the dedication and attentiveness expected of those who serve our community.

We commend Corporal Taylor, Sergeant Fleming and Deputy Williams for their decisive actions, professionalism and commitment to safeguarding the people of Calhoun County. Their efforts reflect positively on themselves and on the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Our annual Turkey Fry is right around the corner, and it remains one of our most popular community traditions. Every year, folks bring in their turkeys, we toe tag them evidence style, and fry them up to perfection. The small fee collected goes straight to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Foundation, supporting programs that benefit our community.

While the event is always a hit, most of the proceeds go right back into making it happen. Last year alone, we used dozens of butter injectors, seasoning shakers, heavy duty gloves, oil dry, and more than thirty jugs of peanut oil to keep the fryers running safely and smoothly.

This year, we’re hoping to offset some of those costs through community donations. If you or your business would like to help, here are a few of the items we rely on most:

• Peanut oil — 3 gallon jugs
• Injectable butter — 17 oz bottles
• Seasoning shakers — 32 oz containers
• Work gloves — thick, heat resistant
• Oil dry — bags for spill safety

Every donation helps us keep this tradition alive, safe, and fun for everyone. If you’re interested in contributing, reach out to our office and we’ll get you connected.

We can’t wait to see everyone again this year — and we’re already looking forward to toe tagging those turkeys.

Sgt. Nick Abernathy said he and Cpl. Andrew Cavitt truly enjoyed interacting with the Pre-K kids at Saks Elementary. Our team brought out the BEARCAT and let the children check it out as well as some of our equipment. They had plenty of questions to ask and seemed excited just to spend time with the guys.
