If the goal is to keep City spending in check, the check should be on spending.

The current formula is based on the taxes the City collects, so it can count new business revenue against us. The proposed formula looks at what the City spends: if spending goes up by 4% or more, voters decide. That's a real check on the budget that still lets Ansonia grow.

Don't punish growth. Control spending. Fix the formula. Vote YES on Question 2

‼️ Ansonia didn't get into our financial challenges overnight, and we won't fix them by doing nothing.

These proposed charter revisions are an opportunity to improve our budget process and move our city forward. The city's trying to keep residents informed and answer questions along the way. Let's be a part of that conversation and move Ansonia forward together! ⏩️

Ansonia Charter Revision Town Hall Meeting
📍 Prendergast School
🗓️ Thursday, October 29 at 7 PM

Join us at Prendergast School on Thursday, October 29th at 7 PM for a Town Hall Meeting about the Ansonia Charter Revision.

The fix is simple: Grow our tax base, NOT the burden on homeowners!

Ansonia needs to control spending while bringing in new businesses and economic development. A growing tax base means more revenue to help pay for city services without relying so heavily on existing homeowners.

Our budget process should encourage that growth, not work against it.

Hear the Charter Revision Commission's Vice-Chair explain it.

Vote YES on Question 2! Control spending. Encourage growth. Build a stronger Ansonia!

Glad to see this discussion happening! Thank you to Javier Varas for helping explain the proposed charter changes. These are great steps toward moving Ansonia forward, and we want everyone to be informed and part of that progress. Let's charge forward together! ⏩️

We're holding a roundtable discussion about proposed Ansonia charter revisions at 12 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. The discussion will be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.

For the discussion, we're bringing in Javier Varas, the chairman of the charter revision commission which recommended the changes, and Dana Haigh, the chairman of the Ansonia Republican Town Committee.

We'll be asking about proposed changes which could affect how the city creates its budgets in the future.

Tune in and bring your questions and thoughts!

When a new business opens in Ansonia, we should be celebrating. New storefronts mean more jobs, more foot traffic, and more tax revenue coming into the City.

Under our current charter, though, a budget referendum is triggered when the net taxes collected go up by 3% or more. So growth itself can set it off. The more businesses we welcome, the closer we get to a referendum, even if the City isn't spending a dollar more.

Question 2 fixes that. A referendum would be triggered when City spending goes up by 4% or more. You still get a say, and growth stops being treated like a problem.

Vote YES on Questions 1 and 2
