The Antioch Police Department is investigating a traffic collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in Antioch Wednesday evening.

On October 21, 2026, at about 8:16 p.m., an off-duty Antioch police officer on his way to work discovered a 41-year-old man lying in the roadway near L Street and West 18th Street. The man appeared to have sustained injuries to his head and leg.
The officer immediately began providing medical aid while contacting APD Dispatch to request emergency medical assistance from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

The man was transported to a local trauma center, where he is listed in stable condition and is expected to remain overnight for observation. The driver involved in the collision remained at
the scene and cooperated with officers. Driving under the influence (DUI) is not suspected at this time.

The Antioch Police Department Traffic Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has additional information is encouraged to contact the Antioch Police Department at (925) 779-6800.

You agreed on the price. Have you agreed on the meetup?

Buying or selling on Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, or another online platform? Plan the exchange before you leave home.

📍 Antioch Police Department has a designated Exchange Zone in our main parking lot at 300 L Street. Look for the posted sign.

A few practical tips for BOTH buyers and sellers:

📌 Don’t follow a last-minute location change. “Come around the corner” or “meet my friend somewhere else” changes the arrangement. You can cancel or reschedule—even if you’ve already driven there.

🔎 Buyers: Check the item, not just the box. Open the packaging, compare the model and accessories with the listing, and test it before paying. For electronics, agree on how you’ll test them before meeting.

💵 Sellers: A payment screenshot isn’t proof. If accepting an electronic payment, open your own app to check it. Don’t rely on their screen, an email, or a link they send. Never share a verification code.

🤝 Set the terms before the trip. Agree on the price, payment method, who’s meeting, and what’s included. Meet during daylight and bring another adult when possible.

📱 Keep a record. Save the listing, seller or buyer profile, and messages before the meetup. Keep communication in the platform.

You don’t owe anyone a completed sale. Pressure to rush, skip inspection, or change the plan is a reason to pause.

The Exchange Zone does not guarantee safety. City employees cannot serve as official witnesses, authenticate items, or settle civil disputes.

Save this for your next meetup—or send it to someone who buys and sells online.

Antioch High School recently hosted its annual Start With Hello event, a national program led by the school’s Peer Advocates and supported by leadership and staff groups. The program features a week of activities focused on building connections and fostering a sense of community among students.

Antioch High falls within Officer Ramirez’s beat, and he makes it a priority to stop by whenever he can to connect with students and build positive relationships.

On Tuesday, Officer Ramirez was invited to join the fun! He enjoyed checking in with students, meeting new faces, and even jumping into a few games! 🙌😊

Building trust, encouraging connections, and strengthening relationships with our youth are important parts of community policing. We’re grateful to Antioch High School for welcoming Officer Ramirez and creating opportunities to bring our community closer together! 💙👮‍♂️ Antioch High School
