At the same time half of Battalion 92 was in the water, the other half was learning the best way to establish a water supply.

NFD Debuts New All-Terrain Medical Unit

The new ATMU joins 6 other ATMUs and Mass Casualty AmbuBus in service for Nashville.

Nashville, TN (June 4, 2026) The Nashville Fire Department Special Operations Division added a new All-Terrain Medical Unit (ATMU) response vehicle to the department’s fleet of ATVs to serve Metro Nashville Davidson County.

This advanced life support unit is designed to respond during major special events but also for everyday use in Nashville’s most densely populated areas. The vehicle enhances NFD’s ability to improve response times and deliver innovative, world‑class emergency services to both residents and visitors across Metro Nashville-Davidson County.

The ATMU includes a fully enclosed patient area. This protects the patient and personnel from the elements.

The patient area includes:

Full-body hydraulic lift for patient loading and maintenance access
Padded bench seat with back support, seat belt
Thermal-block radiant heatshield insulation on ceiling of patient area
Non-slip rubberized Liner on floor of patient area

Depending on performance, additional ATMU units could be added to the fleet based on available funding.

The new ATMU joins 6 other ATMUs and NFD’s AmbuBus. The AmbuBus is a retrofitted Metro Nashville Public School Bus provided by MNPS to the Nashville Fire Department.

The AmbuBus has the capabilities to respond to mass casualty incidents that would otherwise deplete the pool of available ambulances. Just one AmbuBus can replace numerous ambulances allowing other ambulances to be used for critically injured victims or regular service.

The AmbuBus can also be used for mass evacuations during severe weather including flooding to help non-ambulatory patients safely evacuate an impacted area.

Both resources are deployed during CMA Fest 2026.

NFD Co-Response Program Adds Logo to Vehicles

Responders Engaged and Committed to Helping (REACH) Adds logo to identify REACH responder vehicle

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 3, 2026) – The Nashville Fire Department’s Co-Response Program Responders Engaged and Committed to Helping (REACH) added a new logo to the response vehicles, so they are easier to identify compared to other NFD response vehicles.

The new REACH logo is on a clearly marked NFD Tahoe above the front wheel wells on both sides of the vehicle.

REACH launched in February of 2023 to address the burden of mental health emergencies place on both emergency departments and emergency medical services’ resources. REACH pairs an NFD Paramedic with a Master’s-Level Mental Health Clinician from Mental Health Cooperative to respond to non-violent mental health emergencies.

The Department of Emergency Communications (DEC) identifies calls for REACH to respond to, which leads to more effective responses to mental health emergencies, which reduces the number of NFD EMS resources responding to those emergencies.

The program also helps connect clients with the correct resources in a more direct way. In the past, these clients would either be transported to an emergency room for further care or be taken into custody.
REACH expanded to 24 Hours in December of 2025.
