NEWS RELEASE

Pursuit Ends in Rollover After Driver Accelerates Toward Officers

Hillsboro, NH - On October 9, 2026, at approximately 3:10 a.m., officers from the Hillsboro Police Department responded to Cumberland Farms on Henniker Street for a report of a suspicious vehicle.

As an officer arrived, a vehicle was observed leaving the parking lot without its headlights on. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over and fled at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued the vehicle from Hillsboro into Antrim, where the driver turned off the headlights, causing officers to temporarily lose sight of it.

Hillsboro officers subsequently located the vehicle on Thompsons Crossing in Antrim. While the officers were outside their cruiser, the driver suddenly accelerated toward them, forcing both officers to run for safety to avoid being struck by the vehicle.

The driver continued fleeing at a high rate of speed before losing control of the vehicle on the dirt roadway. The vehicle went off the road, traveled down an embankment, and rolled over.

Officers immediately took the driver, identified as Christopher Johnson, age 32, of Sharon, NH, into custody.

Johnson sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries. Both were treated at the scene by Antrim Ambulance and transported to the hospital.

Further investigation revealed that Johnson was out on bail following an arrest in Rhode Island on October 1, 2026, involving similar circumstances.

As a result of this incident, Johnson faces numerous criminal charges filed by both the Hillsboro and Antrim Police Departments.

Hillsboro Police Department Charges:

- Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon (Felony)
- Domestic Violence Kidnapping (Felony)
- Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Felony)
- Disobeying an Officer
- Criminal Restraint
- Reckless Operation
- Speeding
- Traffic Signal Violation
- Expired Registration
- Lights Required

Antrim Police Department Charges:

- Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon (Felony)
- Second Degree Assault – 2 Counts (Felony)

On October 5, 2026, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Officers of the Antrim Police Department were on patrol in the downtown area of Antrim when they observed a black 2020 Nissan Rogue traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. Officers were then able to initiate a motor vehicle stop of that vehicle on Elm Avenue.

Upon making contact with the driver, officers observed signs that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol as well as having an open container of alcohol in the center console. The driver became uncooperative and was advised that he was under arrest but refused to exit the vehicle. The driver then fled the motor vehicle stop, and Antrim Police officers initiated a pursuit on Elm Avenue.

Officers from the Hillsboro Police Department subsequently located the suspect vehicle on Old Milk Road in Antrim and attempted to stop it. The suspect vehicle rapidly accelerated toward the Hillsboro Police cruiser and struck the cruiser head-on, causing damage to both vehicles and injury to the Hillsboro officers.

The suspect then drove around the police cruiser, extinguished the vehicle's lights, and continued onto Turner Hill Road. At the end of Turner Hill Road, the Hillsboro Police Officers that were struck were able to conduct a high-risk motor vehicle stop of that vehicle. Antrim Police officers arrived on scene and assisted in taking the driver, identified as

Mr. David Bennett, age 36, of Wi******er, NH

into custody.

All parties involved in the collision were evaluated by Antrim Ambulance for injuries.

We’ve seen an uptick in scams and fraud attempts here in town and throughout the region.

Remember to slow down, verify, and don’t be pressured into making quick decisions. Never provide your personal information, passwords, banking information, or send money to someone you don’t know or weren’t expecting to hear from.

Specifically, we have seen cases involving scammers calling residents pretending to be from a federal agency demanding money or they will be arrested. This is most certainly a scam.

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and give us a call. It’s always better to check with us than to find out the hard way.

Today, on National Police Woman Day, we proudly recognize the women who serve in law enforcement with professionalism, strength, compassion, and dedication.

Women in policing continue to make an important difference in their agencies and communities every day—responding in moments of crisis, building relationships, solving problems, protecting others, and helping shape the future of our profession.

Here at the Antrim Police Department, we are especially proud of these two women who have chosen to serve our community. Their commitment, professionalism, and willingness to step forward when others need help represent the very best of public service.

To all of the women who have served, currently serve, and those who will follow in their footsteps: thank you for your service, your leadership, and the difference you make every day.

💙 Happy National Police Woman Day! 💙

Today, the Antrim Police Department joins our community and our nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We remember the 2,977 innocent people who never returned home to their families.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, military members, and countless ordinary citizens who ran toward danger to help others.

We remember the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness displayed on one of the darkest days in our nation’s history—and the unity that followed.

We also remember the first responders and others who have continued to suffer, and those who have lost their lives in the years since, as a result of illnesses connected to their service at Ground Zero.

Twenty-five years later, their sacrifice has not been forgotten.

May we continue to honor them not only through remembrance, but through service to others, compassion for our neighbors, and gratitude for those who answer the call when others are in need.

Never Forget. 🇺🇸

🐾 WE DID IT — GOAL REACHED! 🐾

In under 48 hours, the incredible generosity of our community and supporters helped us officially reach our $3,500 fundraising goal for K9 Dexter’s protective ballistic vest.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

To raise these funds in under two days is truly remarkable. For such a small town, Antrim continues to show that it has one of the biggest hearts anywhere. The support shown for K9 Dexter, Officer Girard, and the Antrim Police Department has been incredibly humbling.

Every donation, every share, and every word of encouragement helped make this happen. We are deeply grateful to every individual, business, and organization that contributed and helped us reach this goal so quickly.

Thank you for helping us protect K9 Dexter and for continuing to support our department and community. We are proud to serve such an amazing and supportive community!
