As promised, I have more spooky (?) items to share with y'all from the Lawrence University Archives for National Archives Month. This time, we have a couple of friends from Milwaukee-Downer College. 👀

Every week this month, I'll be sharing something kind of spooky, kind of creepy from the Lawrence University Archives — because it's not just Halloween, but it's also National Archives Month!

Are you ready for a scare? 🧙‍♀️

Also, if you're on campus, check out the displays on the first floor of the Library — Haunted Lawrence and Haunted Milwaukee-Downer. They're sure to give you a thrill. 👻

It's officially SPOOK season!! 👻

It's also National Archives Month! 📜

And we're all about it at the Lawrence University Archives.

For the whole month of October, there's a display at the Lawrence University Library (1st floor lounge and Milwaukee-Downer Room) of spooky stories, images and artifacts from the collections!

I'll also be doing in-depth features of some of the items on display on this here social media platform.

Stay tuned and spooky! 👻

Also, shout out to Anna (ILL Librarian) for filming and taking these awesome photos!

Lawrence campus has always been so beautiful in the fall. 🍂 And yesterday marked the official first day of the season!

The first image, circa. 1940, is of the Memorial Chapel taken by Jim Chapelle.

And the second image, also circa. 1940 by Jim Chapelle, is of the old Carnegie Library, standing where the Seeley G. Mudd Library is today. If you zoom in, you can see the old cars parked in front of the library.

Both images were scanned from original negatives from the University Photographs collection (LU-RG13-009).

The University Archivist is definitely pumped to have students on campus again!

Though the summer was filled with processing fun, it's time to get out of the stacks (and cage) and interact with students in the classroom and around campus! Also, you can always come to the Archives to do research too!

Happy National Dog Day from the Lawrence University Archives!

This is Duke. Duke, a certified Good Doggo™, was the pet of a Conservatory of Music faculty member, Harry Heard. Heard served as a professor of voice from 1895-1901. In this image, circa. 1900, Duke is resting in front of a tree where the current Seeley G. Mudd Library now stands. A library was not erected in that spot until 1906, when the Carnegie Library, the Mudd's predecessor, was built. Though I cannot historically confirm this, I am sure Duke blessed that spot, and the future library, with his presence.

The Music Librarian wanted to see what we had in that room 😅

No LU Archives materials were swiped in the making of this video.

Thanks Chandler (Music Librarian) for being a good sport in the video and Anna (ILL Librarian) for filming!

Also, big shout out to Lydia for sharing the Hampden-Sydney College Library reel with me!
