Outagamie County Recycling and Solid Waste

Call Directions Website

Outagamie County Recycling and Solid Waste Our Purpose is to enhance the quality of life for our 32 municipalities by providing world-class recycling, waste diversion, and landfill services.

In 1993, Outagamie County became the legally-established Responsible Unit (RU) for developing, implementing, and maintaining state-mandated recycling for the entire County. The County contracts with Orion Waste Solutions to collect curbside recyclables from the 68,000 households within the County, including all of Appleton and New London. The curbside recycling program is for all residents living in a single family home, duplex, triplex or four-plex. By law, property owners or landlords of larger multi-family dwellings must provide recycling programs for their tenants. In 2001, Brown, Outagamie, and Winnebago Counties joined forces to form the Tri-County Regional Partnership. This cooperative agreement paved the way for development of a regional recycling system that would serve municipalities in all three counties. In 2008, the agreement was amended to include the planning, construction, and operation of a new single-stream recycling facility, located in Appleton and operated by Outagamie County. The operation of the Tri-County Recycling Facility began in July of 2009 and today continues to serve residents of Northeast Wisconsin, providing cost-efficient sorting and marketing of recyclable materials that are banned from landfill disposal.

The year was 2008. Wii bowling was at its peak. Your hands, sweaty, as you leaned back to throw what would have been your 12th strike. However, in the heat of the moment, you forgot to secure your wrist strap. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ The TV's been in the basement ever since.

This is a friendly reminder that we accept TVs at the Resource Recovery Park for proper disposal. Please be advised there is a $30 charge. This covers all sizes and types: LED, LCD, plasma, and CRT, to name a few.

We are unable to accept dismantled electronics. Broken is fine; however, if electrical components have been removed, it is no longer acceptable.

How to dispose of old (and possibly haunted) furniture.

We get it. You've tried everything. Marketplace, family members, even the curb.

You leave it out, yet it mysteriously always ends up back in your garage.

Before you call Ghostbusters, let us save you the trouble. We are designed to handle such problems. All we ask is that you securely strap it or tarp it before bringing it in. For safety reasons, not that we are scared or anything...

Once on the scale, let us know you have furniture and one of our trained professionals will assist you further.

It will come at a cost, but it's a cheap price to pay for your sanity.

Don't let that stop you from disposing of it properly! We accept mattresses and box springs at our Resource Recovery Park anytime we are open, only $5 apiece.

For all of the trading card collectors out there, please be advised - the plastic wrapper that the cards come in is NOT recyclable ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Unfortunately, when these are mixed in with other clean recyclables it could cause the whole load to be sent to the landfill.

We hope you find a rare one, and keep it forever, just remember to pitch the wrapper in the trash when you are done.

Thank you!

Yikes! ๐Ÿ˜ฌโšก

This is not a number we like to share...

We are looking for your help to let everyone know " You should never place a battery in your recycling cart."

Did you know a single lithium-ion battery fire could take down our entire recycling facility? ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

We are extremely lucky that this volume of batteries didn't cause any significant damage.

All of these batteries should have been brought to a designated drop off location, such as our Resource Recovery Park. We accept all forms of batteries FREE of charge. Please help us spread the word and bring this number to ZERO in the near future!
