FEMA has announced that federal disaster assistance is available to residents impacted by the severe storms and tornado on July 27, 2026. Individuals and families who sustained losses should first file claims with their insurance providers and then apply for assistance online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-3362 or by using the FEMA app.

If you use a relay service, such as video relay services (VRS), captioned telephone service, or others, provide FEMA the number for that service.

We heartily applaud the hard work, diligence, drive, and enthusiasm of First 5 Fox Valley! The innovative redesign of the historic Riegel building, formerly the Trout Museum of Art, creates a safe, educational, and resource-filled space for children and their families of the Fox Valley.

Episode 168 of Appleton Engaged is LIVE! 🎙

In this episode of Appleton Engaged, we sit down with Cindy Reffke, Executive Director of Prevent Su***de Fox Cities. The conversation explores how this nonprofit coalition works tirelessly to reduce su***de across our region and provide compassionate, ongoing support to survivors of su***de loss.

Cindy shares critical insights into identifying warning signs, understanding why thoughtful language matters (shifting from "committed" to "died by su***de"), and breaking down dangerous stigmas surrounding mental illness. We also discuss practical prevention tools—such as the free 90-minute QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) gatekeeper training, secure fi***rm storage with trigger locks, and key lifeline resources like 988, 211, and Crisis Intervention Trained (CIT) law enforcement officers.

âś…About the Organization:
Prevent Su***de Fox Cities is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2010 to address su***de prevention and postvention needs across the Fox Cities region. The organization provides peer grief support to survivors of su***de loss, delivers comfort baskets to newly bereaved families, and conducts su***de prevention education throughout the community.

Through monthly support group meetings, community gatekeeper trainings, and annual awareness events like the butterfly release and the College Avenue memorial walk, Prevent Su***de Fox Cities fosters compassion, reduces stigma, and builds a supportive safety net across the Fox Valley.

Utility bills for September are scheduled to be mailed October 6, 2026. Because of the delay in mailing, due dates are extended to October 29, 2026. This extension ensures that customers will have time to receive and review their bills before payment is due.

We thank you for the patience and understanding you’ve shown while we resolved the issue that caused the delay.

How proud we are of the consistently high standards met by Valley Transit! More than 20 drivers and service to the community six days each week.

Their award for 2026 reads:
“It is with great pleasure I declare Valley Transit the winner of the Transit Mutual Insurance Corporation of WI … Driving Incentive Program for Division III. Valley Transit has won this award 10 times. Your record clearly demonstrates the driving professionalism and strong safety commitment at Valley Transit.”

May we propose waving and clapping when you see a Valley Transit bus drive by?

Episode 167 of Appleton Engaged is LIVE! 🎙

In this episode of Appleton Engaged, host Timber Smith is joined by guest co-host Paula McCambridge (Communications Director for the City of Appleton) to sit down with Adam "Doc" Brandt, Environmental Education and Natural Resource Manager for Mosquito Hill Nature Center, and Justin Schumacher, Director of the Outagamie County Parks System. The conversation explores how our regional parks foster community well-being, environmental education, and outdoor recreation across Outagamie County.

Our guests share the quirky logging history behind the name "Mosquito Hill" and take us through the center's 441 acres of diverse ecosystems—from high-elevation scenic views and restored prairies to lowland forests and newly renovated indoor interactive lab displays. We also discuss groundbreaking accessibility features like all-terrain electric track chairs, floating Moby-Mats, and custom UTVs that ensure nature is truly for everyone, as well as community-wide citizen science initiatives (including the international Motus wildlife tracking network) and upcoming fall family festivals like Honey Sunday and Harvest Moon.

âś…About the Organization:
Mosquito Hill Nature Center is a 441-acre environmental education and recreation facility within the Outagamie County Parks System, located near New London, Wisconsin. Serving residents across the Fox Cities and beyond, the center features miles of scenic hiking trails, hands-on natural history exhibits, and dynamic year-round educational programming for schools, families, and seniors.

Supported by county leadership and the nonprofit Friends of Mosquito Hill, the park is dedicated to habitat conservation, citizen science research, and barrier-free accessibility—offering all-terrain mobility devices and inclusive outdoor spaces so that community members of all ages and abilities can connect with the natural world.
