Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. 💗
Today, we recognize those living with metastatic breast cancer, honor those we have lost, and raise awareness about the importance of research, support, and early detection.
🎀What is metastatic breast cancer?
Also known as advanced or Stage IV breast cancer, metastatic breast cancer occurs when cancer spreads from the breast to other parts of the body. It may develop when breast cancer returns after treatment, and it can also be present at the time of an initial diagnosis. Although metastatic breast cancer currently has no cure, treatments can help slow the disease, manage symptoms, improve quality of life, and help people live longer.
🎀Why does early detection matter?
Early detection is an important part of breast health. Regular screening and paying attention to changes in your body can help identify concerns that need medical evaluation. However, metastatic breast cancer can still develop, including after treatment for earlier-stage breast cancer. If you notice changes in your breasts or experience new, persistent symptoms, talk with your healthcare provider.
At SCK Health, we encourage everyone to make their breast health a priority. We offer 3D mammography right here at home, making it easier to access screening close to our community. Call SCK Health at 620-441-5716 to schedule.
