This year’s fiscally-responsible budget invested in Local Food Infrastructure Grants to help working families access affordable fresh food, combat chronic illnesses like heart disease, and support growing local businesses. A new round of grant opportunities for these businesses opens on November 2nd.

Grants can assist small food suppliers in purchasing essential equipment, such as refrigerated trucks, livestock processing tools, and upgrades for community kitchens.

On Tuesday, I spoke with NBC Chicago about the importance of HB4990 and the need to better protect students.
This legislation would empower survivors by allowing them to attend campus proceedings with legal and mental health support. It would also give them the ability to take legal action against schools they believe failed to adequately address their cases.

National outrage about sexual assault at Cornell and UChicago shows us that we must do more to protect our students. That’s why I sponsored HB4990, state legislation to strengthen protections for survivors and hold colleges accountable. I discussed the bill with Good Day Chicago, watch here: https://youtu.be/KmZVtO8H5hw?is=tCNCA08fP4dfPq0Q

This October marks the first Illinois Disability History Month. In Illinois, House Dems have made great strides to protect and expand the rights of people living with disabilities throughout our state.

We’ve passed the Dignity in Pay Act to ensure workers of all abilities receive a fair wages. We’ve improved the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Program so parents can save for home adaptations as soon as their child receives a disability diagnosis. Under Sami’s Law, all public buildings will include a mobile changing table within an accessible stall. And, the new Blue Envelope Program will promote safer interactions between neurodivergent drivers and law enforcement.

While the federal government drives up costs with foreign wars and misguided trade policies, Illinois cut more than $600 million in taxes for over 950,000 working families. In 2025, the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) together saved recipients an average of $1,460.
