Our first-ever Spirit Week was a big hit! 🎉
We showed love for our favorite sports teams, went groovy with tie-dye, honored our history with food-themed outfits, groaned over bad puns, celebrated beloved book and movie characters, and relived some iconic decades.
While there were no official prizes, we wanted to give a special shout out to a few standout participants:
🏈 Sports Day: Maura with her Nats shirt, hat, and earrings!
🌈 Tie-Dye Day: Carolyn and Tyree with their matching outfits!
🍕 Food Day: Maria and her pizza costume!
😂 Pun Day: Leo — “Sticks to your ribs!”
🏴☠️ Character Day: Rob, who went 100% all in as Jack Sparrow!
Thank you to everyone who joined in and made the week so much fun!

We took a moment to celebrate and say goodbye to Bruce H (center) as he begins a new chapter in Ohio! For the past 10 years, Bruce has been a familiar face at AFAC, volunteering on most Fridays and bringing both compassion and great music to our staff and volunteers.
We’ll miss his kindness, dedication, and friendship, and we know he’ll miss his AFAC family too. Thank you, Bruce, for everything you’ve given to our community over the years!💚

Check them out! The “Bag Ladies” have been bringing heart, hard work, and laughter to AFAC for many years.💚
Every other Tuesday, they bag produce and dried goods, assemble emergency food kits, and tackle whatever tasks are needed. Outside of AFAC, they transform our rice and bean bags into reusable tote bags you may spot at outreach events (get it? "Bag Ladies"😆).
We're so grateful for their dedication, generosity, and the joy they bring every time they walk through our doors!

🚲Bike to Work day is just around the bend! AFAC is excited to be a part of this year's celebration, and will be tabling at the Rosslyn Pit Stop!🚲
Stop by to say hi, meet some of our team members, and learn more about how our organization is working to fight food insecurity in Arlington.
We look forward to seeing the cyclists!

🤲💚We celebrated Volunteer Appreciation Week by providing our volunteers with pins, cookies, and coffee, and are capping it off with our annual raffle of fun prizes!💚🤲
A special thanks to Starbucks Crystal City for their coffee donation and Village Sweet Bakery for the delicious baked goods. We would also like to thank Lebanese Taverna, Mud Tree Pottery Designs, True Food Kitchen, the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City, and Signature Theatre for their lovely donations and gift certificates for this year's raffle prizes.
Our volunteers make everything we do possible. At AFAC, your time and dedication are appreciated all year long, not just during one special week.💚

Let's Stamp Out Hunger!📬💌
AFAC is taking part in the 34th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive! This nationwide effort, led by the National Association of Letter Carriers, is the largest one-day food drive in the country.
Arlington residents can make a difference by simply leaving a bag of non-perishable food items by your mailbox by 9 AM on Saturday, May 9, and your letter carrier will pick it up on their route. All Arlington donations stay local and go directly to our clients here at AFAC!
If you live in an apartment, you can drop off donations at select Arlington post offices or libraries by Friday, May 12, or bring them to AFAC starting Monday, May 11.

If you're looking for a weekly volunteer opportunity, and are available most Tuesday afternoons, we are launching our personal shopper program! You will arrive at AFAC between 1:00 and 1:15 pm, wait in the AFAC line (distribution ends at 1:00 so most of our regular clients will be almost finished shopping), and then shop for 1 or 2 Arlington families and deliver the groceries to them. You don't enter the client's house but you must make contact to let them know their groceries have arrived. You can try this out for a week or two before committing, but we'd like it to be a weekly commitment. We understand travel, illness, and life's nuisances. If you're interested or have questions, please email [email protected]

We love our school groups! AFAC is so grateful for our amazing community.
Shoutout to the students of Holy Child for volunteering, and to Dorothy Hamm Middle School for participating in a food drive for Kids Giving (and sending us such thoughtful cards and posters)!💚

Some of our volunteers don’t just support AFAC individually... they do it together! This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating the couples who volunteer side by side and strengthen our community💘
