The Arlington Police Department has received a complaint of people blowing, raking, piling leaves and yard debris in the roadway from the resident's yard. This is a reminder that we ask that residents remove any piles of leaves/debris in a timely manner. Residents are responsible to remove the obstructions.

We have been alerted that there have been complaints on a community page about two dogs being locked in a garage. The two dogs were in the garage temporarily and have been removed when the Arlington Police Department was made aware of the matter weeks ago. This was also verified by an officer on 8/11/2026 that the two dogs in question were not in the garage.

The police department does follow-up on dogs at large. We have an ordinance that is enforced and numerous tickets have been issued often to the same offenders. Please register your dogs and cats so we can get them home when they do get out. Leash your dog please. Most dogs like to run when they get their chance at a little freedom.

We do not take in animals that are not licensed. We do not have a pound, and the out of county shelters won't take them from us unless we pay a significant monthly contracted rate. There are no local shelters. We have had to keep dogs in our police department that have been dropped off in our lobby until we can find placement, which is extremely difficult. Other cities and the county struggle with the same issue.

We do not put animals down unless they are injured. This is typically for wild animals such as raccoons.

If there are matters that need attention in the city we remind everyone to contact the Arlington Police Department or the City of Arlington, Minnesota so it can be directed to the appropriate department so the matter can be addressed by city staff in a timely manner.
