A Mother's Side of War,
Aaron was shooting video out of the top of the AAV he was in, when an IED changed the course of his and my life forever.
There was a film crew in the lead tank, they filmed everything. This is the tank my son, and 17 others were trapped in...
When I got to Aaron at BAMC, 48 hours after the explosion, my first words to him were, "Momma's here."
From that point, it became my focus to repeat those words over and over again. He had to know he was safe...
Almost eight years later, Aaron still continues to have surgeries to repair the damaged done that day. He has had over 65 so far and after each one I still repeat, Momma's here...
Over the years, my mission has grown to include, not only my son but all those returning service members who need to hear those simple words, Momma's here...
Who has your back, when the moments are so difficult you need someone to focus on you? - Diana Mankin Phelps
