Our statement on the Supreme Court of Virginia’s Redistricting Decision

This spring, Arlington Democrats ran a full fall-style campaign to win the redistricting referendum, and we won it decisively, four-to-one. We brought the full weight of the party to bear, and Arlington delivered. Forty-five percent of voters turned out, and every single one of our 54 precincts voted YES. Arlingtonians showed up because they are fed up with tariffs driving up the cost of groceries and household goods, with federal workers losing their jobs, and with reckless economic policies that are making life harder for working families across Northern Virginia. Friday's ruling by the Supreme Court of Virginia overturning the votes of more than three million Virginians by a 4-3 partisan decision is unprecedented in our Commonwealth's history. We are disappointed but not deterred.

What Arlington Democrats built this spring does not disappear with this ruling. Our volunteers are trained, organized, and now more motivated than ever to win in November. Through our Beyond Arlington program, we will deploy that energy—every organizing tool, every volunteer hour, and every dollar—toward defeating Republican incumbents and sending at least two more Democrats to Congress from Virginia this fall.

This month of May, Arlington Democrats celebrate the history and diverse cultures of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities whose resilience, work ethic, and determination have helped build this country.

Throughout American history, AANHPI communities have been at the forefront, building our democracy and expanding civil rights in this country through landmark moments like United States v. Wong Kim Ark affirming birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment, the repeal of the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1943, the passage of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 which acknowledged the injustice of Japanese American internment, and generations of organizing for labor rights, immigration justice, and equal protection under the law. These struggles and victories reflect a long fight to ensure the promise of America applies to all.
