Last Saturday, Goodwill of Greater Washington and AHC broke ground on an innovative redevelopment in Arlington!
We're working with Goodwill to transform 10 S. Glebe Road into a first-of-its-kind community — 128 affordable homes, onsite childcare, and a modernized Goodwill retail and donation center.
This development will create new opportunities for 128 families, with homes affordable from 30%–60% AMI, including family-sized apartments and supportive housing.

As we continue our series, we're taking a moment during to celebrate one of AHC's longest and most impactful partnerships!
Twenty-five years ago, AHC was accepted into the NeighborWorks network, representing a milestone moment for our organization. Since our partnership began, has invested millions of dollars in our work to support our residents, connected us with transformative training and networking opportunities, and helped us reimagine what it means to build and invest in our communities.
Thank you to NeighborWorks America for helping AHC expand opportunities, build stability, and strengthen communities for the long haul.

Earlier this month, young AHC residents participated in Fairfax County Government's first-ever Thriving Youth Cup, a community soccer tournament that connects youth with resources and support. The event highlighted safe, fun ways to gather with friends, while bringing awareness to gang prevention.
Coached by AHC Program Assistant Jabez Valencia, who is also an AHC education program alum, our team was one of the youngest on the field and the only group representing Arlington, Virginia.
Kudos to our teens!

Last Friday, seniors in our College & Career Readiness (CCR) program and fifth graders in our CCR Leaders in Training program celebrated their next steps at our Decision Day event.
Seniors shared their post-high school plans with families and AHC supporters in the audience, including college, military, and trade school pathways. Fifth-grade students shared which middle school they’ll attend and what careers they hope to pursue in the future.
Senior Alex and fifth grader Axwell delivered a joint speech about their upcoming transitions to college and middle school — changes that can feel scary but are also full of excitement.
"And that's the wondrous thing about life, whether you’re an 11-year-old [or] an 18-year-old ... every day you live new experiences and learn more about yourself .... Always remember your beginnings: those original dreams and goals you set for yourself are achievable. If you were able to dream big then," Alex said, "you can continue to dream big now," Axwell added.
Congratulations to all of our students! A huge thank you to the families, supporters, and volunteers who helped make this school year a success. Read more about the CCR program: https://ahcommunities.org/media-center/?_tags=ccr.

What began in 1993 as a six-month, part-time role has grown into a vibrant Resident Services team of more than 50 staff, serving thousands of residents with comprehensive support across the mid-Atlantic region.
“Over the years, what hasn’t changed is our belief that housing is just the starting point,” Jennifer Endo, one of the earliest Resident Services team members and now Vice President of Community Relations, said. “When we invest in people and build relationships where they live, that’s when we see real, lasting impact.”

AHC is partnering with University of Maryland Medical System to bring health screenings to our residents' doorsteps!
Earlier this month, the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) RV visited two AHC communities in Baltimore, MonteVerde Apartments (home to seniors and non-elderly residents with disabilities) and Madera Apartments. Combined, the two visits served 28 residents. The van will visit two other AHC Baltimore communities in June and July, Union Rowe and Greenspring Overlook.
Residents shared how glad they were that they participated. The RV will visit other AHC communities and be back at MonteVerde in three months. Thank you to UMMC for bringing this incredible resource to residents’ doorsteps.

Our students are jumping into the end of the semester!
High school students from our College and Career Readiness (CCR) and Teen programs toured ECPI University in Manassas, Virginia, to round out the school year. They got hands-on learning in healthcare and cybersecurity. Exposing young people to real-world career pathways is central to our education cornerstone. Trips like this remind us why this work matters.
To celebrate the end of the year, students also enjoyed some well-deserved fun at Sky Zone.
Thank you to ECPI University for welcoming our students and helping them explore their next steps.

On Wednesday, Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) accepted the 2026 Best Affordable Housing Project award at HousingAnd's 35th Annual Meeting & Housing Expo for Allium Place, an innovative partnership with Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland and Montgomery County, MD Government. Allium Place is a 195-home mixed-income community in Silver Spring, Maryland, and one of the largest new affordable housing developments in Montgomery County's history.
“Allium Place is a model because it shows that public-private partnership really allows us to share the burden, share the cost, and get more done with less resources," said Paul Bernard, AHC President & CEO. "We are — every day, at every step — attempting to improve the model of service to give folks a chance and an opportunity.”
