Heating pads and electric blankets cause around 500 fires each year. Almost all of these fires involve electric blankets that are more than ten years old. Electric blankets can cause fires. Always turn them off when not using them, never use them with an extension cord, and check for cracked or damaged cords: https://zurl.co/9OIE3

Voltage surges can damage equipment and lead to unexpected downtime. While GFCIs, fuses & breakers, and consumer UPSs help meet your facility’s safety requirements, only surge protective devices can prevent the three Ds of power surges: destruction, disruptions, and degradation.

ESFI is a proud supporter of NFPA this Fire Prevention Week. When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly. For more info, visit fpw.org.

It’s National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire Prevention Week! Did you know that the average American home has 30 devices with lithium-ion batteries in it? ESFI is reminding you to stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire: https://zurl.co/GIPZB

As a proud supporter of Fire Prevention Week, ESFI is reminding you to use the cord and charger that came with your device or ones approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire. Additionally, charge on a hard, flat surface, as beds, couches, and pillows can trap heat and block airflow. For more info, visit fpw.org.
