Honoring EMS Week by celebrating the dedication of our volunteer members who ride alongside county crews and support our community during special events. Their dedication helps us improve outcomes, together, for everyone in Arlington.
We receive no county funding — every program we offer exists because of the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers.
If you’d like to contribute to our volunteer training and essential supplies that make a real impact, you can support us here: https://donorbox.org/cherrydale-fire-department-donations.

Our recruits wrapping up their Mayday presentations—a key part of firefighter training that teaches how to call for help and save a firefighter who is lost, trapped, or injured. This skill saves lives and builds confidence on the fireground.
If you’d like to support our newest fire academy class, you can help us provide essential gear for new recruits.

Happy Mother’s Day to the incredible moms in our community!
To the mothers who support our volunteer firefighters, to the moms serving beside us, and to every mother who gives strength, courage, and love—you inspire us every day.
Thank you for being the heart of our homes and our firehouse family.
Stay safe, stay celebrated, and enjoy your day.

The CVFD academy will be conducting a live training burn today in Shirlington. You may see smoke in the area—this is a planned exercise and there is no cause for alarm. These controlled burns help our recruits train safely and effectively. We will be burning until around 3:00 pm.

Controlling a charged hose is 10% muscle, 90% negotiating with a very determined stream of water. And then learning the fine art of convincing it to pack neatly afterward.

🚒 Recruit Class 11 kicked off in early February and are deep into training — learning HazMat, hose, ladders, basic medical skills, radio use, and the teamwork it takes to serve our community. Proud of the hard work they’re putting in. Class 11 is showing up strong.

🌟 It’s National Public Health Week! 🌟
As volunteer firefighters, we see every day how much the little things matter.
This week, take a moment for a few small wins:
🔥 Test your smoke alarms.
🧰 Refresh your emergency basics.
🚰 Take care of yourself and check on someone who might need it.
💬 Share one safety tip with a friend or neighbor.
Public health is a team effort, and you’re a huge part of what keeps Arlington strong.

April is National Volunteer Month. We celebrate the incredible volunteers who keep the Cherrydale Volunteer Fire Department strong.
From operational responders to behind‑the‑scenes administrative support, our volunteers are the heart of our department and have bee a vital part of keeping Arlington safe since 1898.
National Volunteer Month is the perfect time to recognize the dedication of our volunteers and to invite others to join the department.
There are two great ways to make an impact:
🔥 Become a Volunteer
We’re always looking for new members to join our team — whether you’re interested in operational roles or supporting the department administratively. No experience is required; we’ll provide the training.
💛 Make a Donation
If volunteering isn’t the right fit, you can still support our mission by making a donation. Every contribution helps us maintain the firehouse, apparatus, equipment, training, and community programs.
Your support — in any form — strengthens our ability to serve Arlington.
Thank you to all who volunteer, donate, and stand with us. We couldn’t do this without you.
