It’s time for ! 🎓 Let’s clear up a major point of confusion for military families planning for college.

❌ MYTH: If a parent uses some of their GI Bill, it automatically reduces their dependent's Chapter 35 benefits.
✅ FACT: Not at all! Chapter 35 benefits (Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance) are generally unaffected by a parent’s use of their own GI Bill.

Eligibility and benefit amounts are calculated based on the Veteran’s service-connected disability rating or service status, not on whether they used their own education benefits.

This means multiple family members can potentially access different benefits at the same time. Don't leave money on the table!

🔦 Soldier Spotlight: Resilience, Dedication, and Education 🔦

Join us in congratulating SFC Kevin Ishola on officially graduating from the The University of Oklahoma with a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, boasting an impressive 3.8 GPA! 🎓👏

SFC Ishola's academic journey began in the spring of 2021 at Kean University in New Jersey. However, navigating the challenges of the pandemic while welcoming a brand-new baby girl into the world required him to put his education on pause. Three years later, in 2024, he decided it was time to finish what he started—and today, that journey has officially come full circle.

By taking full advantage of both (FTA) and State Tuition Assistance (STA), SFC Ishola was able to fund his education and achieve this massive milestone. For someone who admits he never considered himself a “school person,” this program challenged him mentally, academically, and personally. But every late night, sacrifice, and obstacle was worth it.

His message to his fellow Soldiers and friends is simple: Your journey may take longer than expected, and life may force you to pause, but never give up on your goals.

The journey doesn't end here! SFC Ishola has officially applied for the Doctorate program at OU, with the goal of earning his PhD by 2030.

Please join us in celebrating SFC Ishola—and the future Dr. Ish! 👨🏾‍🎓🔥

Planning your next step in higher education? 🏫

If you’re heading to a private, out-of-state, graduate, or study-abroad program, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® might not cover all of your tuition. But don't let that stop you! The Yellow Ribbon Program is designed to help cover those remaining fees and keep your education on track.

Take a moment to see if your prospective school participates in the program. Your hard-earned benefits should work for you!
