FTH Donates Solar Bulbs to Tanauan Schoolchildren 04/15/2014

Thank you so much FTH Inc.!

Feed The Hungry, Inc. in partnership with Burublig para ha Tanauan distributed solar bulbs and Disney-themed rain coats to schoolchildren at two Tanauan barangays seldom reached by relief goods. Barangays Talolora and Atipolo elementary schools both sustained heavy damage and electricity has yet to be restored to both barangays four months after the Typhoon Yolanda devastation.

Feed the Hungry was one of Nokero’s leading buyers for the Philippines with an initial purchase order of 1,008 N200 solar light bulbs.

Gloria Caoile, Co-Chair, FtH Gift Giving Program, told Nokero about one of the most special moments during her visit to the Philippines. A ceremony was held to honor fishermen, seamstresses, and farmers; however, the lights went out during the ceremony due to a ‘brown out’ and nobody could see to continue the celebration. Fortunately, Feed the Hungry was able to provide Nokero solar lights and the villagers were ecstatic that they could continue their celebration due to the new light.

Roosevelt Elementary School in Bellingham, Washington raised $511 for the Philippine Typhoon Relief. Students came with coins from home to put in the jar.

Gloria Caoile’s sister, Eleanor, decided that ‘children’ would like to help other children affected by Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda- so Eleanor started this Penny Jar.

The Filon Boys Piano Concert was held at the Filon residence on Dec. 1. The response was overwhelming that hosts Peter and Suzanne Solis Filon decided to have two performances. Both performances were well attended.

Proceeds from the Filon Boys Concert will be donated to Feed the Hungry, Inc. to build a classroom for the school children in one of the areas devastated by Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda. So far, the Filon Boys Concert has raised $14,360.00! Some small children, Katherine (9) and Christine (7) Gillen; Sofie (11), Calliope (9), and Drexel (7) Reider, broke their piggy banks so they could donate to help the children affected by the super typhoon.

The Vietnam Buddhist Community and the TU BI Foundation expressed their compassion to the Filipino people through prayers and hoped that their donation would help the victims of Supertyphoon Haiyan/Yolanda. A check totaling $ 19,120.00 was presented to Ambassador Cuisia, Philippine Ambassador to the United States, and was handed to Feed the Hungry, Inc.'s CARE Program Director. A million thanks go to the following for their generosity.
