Please join us in congratulating Firefighter/Medic Jerry Hanson on his well-earned retirement after 22.5 years of dedicated service to the Arlington County community.
Jerry began his career with the Arlington County Fire Department as a member of Recruit Class 60 and earned his medic certification in 2005. Throughout his career, he proudly served at Stations 8, 5, 10, 4, 10, and 3, providing exceptional service to the residents and visitors of Arlington County.
In addition to his operational assignments, Jerry made significant contributions as a member of the Technical Rescue Team and the Honor Guard. Whether responding to complex emergencies, representing the department at ceremonial events, or supporting his fellow firefighters, Jerry consistently demonstrated professionalism, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.
Over the course of more than two decades, Jerry built lasting friendships and earned the respect of countless colleagues through his steady leadership, positive attitude, and unwavering dedication to the fire service.
As he begins this next chapter, Jerry looks forward to traveling across the United States with his wife, JC, and their dog, Iko, in their Airstream trailer. As President of the Virginia Airstream Chapter, he also has aspirations of serving in a leadership role within Region 3, continuing his passion for service and community in retirement.
Jerryβs contributions to the Arlington County Fire Department have left a lasting impact, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Today, the Arlington County Fire Department honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.
On this Memorial Day, we also recognize the veterans within our department who have served our country with honor before continuing their commitment to service in our community. We are grateful for your sacrifice, leadership, and dedication both in and out of uniform.

Congratulations to FF Josh Burns, Station 6-C, on successfully completing his probationary process and earning his black shield. This important milestone reflects his hard work, commitment, and dedication to serving the community and the department.
His black shield was presented by Battalion Fire Chief Slusher alongside his wife, FF Savanna Burns, making the occasion even more special. We congratulate FF Burns on this achievement and look forward to his continued success throughout his career.
