Friends of Sheri Capehart Nature Preserve

If you were at the preserve this afternoon and wondered if it was summer yet, it might be hard to tell. With a temperature near 90 and high humidity, it felt hot. I was happy to see the spotted horsemint (aka spotted beebalm) growing tall and blooming. Many of the other flowers are winding down, though there is plenty of black-eyed Susan. And it's always a pleasure to see one of the Texas spiny lizards waiting on the oak trunks to ambush an insect.

A reminder that this coming Thursday is the 3rd installment of the Wild Lives of Texas' Reptiles and Amphibians. It’s damp but not too muddy, so the frog call walk is on! (Hope the frogs show up.) see the event at the Friends of SCNP page. We’ll start by listening to some frog call recordings to get everyone familiar with how our local frogs sound. And since it’s City Nature Challenge weekend I got a few observations while I was out this morning.

From about 2 to 4pm, cloudy and breezy and really pretty great out there.
