Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Sims presided over the ceremony by offering opening remarks to introduce Chief DeLong and later administering the oath of office to him. Lt. Gen. Sims, who had come directly from the Pentagon and was visiting Aberdeen Proving Ground for the first time, touched on the focal points of service and sacrifice during his remarks. He indicated that the four overseas service bars on Chief DeLong’s arm not only signify two years spent deployed (six months per bar), but how those bars also mark the passage of time away from his family who made a sacrifice so that he was able to accomplish his mission. It is a sacrifice that has been rewarded, and Chief DeLong’s family deserves full credit for their commitment to our country.Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Honoring Excellence.
It’s always a privilege to recognize the dedication, service, and sacrifice of our outstanding soldiers. Moments like these remind us why we serve — not for ourselves, but for each other and for the nation we defend.
Proud of this warrior and the values he upholds.

Thirteen years of partnership between K-State and the and Fort Riley have produced multiple long-lasting accomplishments in what President Richard Myers called “our two communities, really just one community.” The two have blurred the lines within the Fort Riley and Manhattan communities through community events and a strong working partnership, here’s to even more future collaborations! .

It was an incredible honor to stand on Cavalry Parade Field alongside Lt. Gen. Robert White and Maj. Gen. John Meyer for the 1st Infantry Division's change of command on Dec 15, 2024. That day was about more than just a formal transition, it was a moment to reflect, to thank the outstanding Soldiers and families of Fort Riley, and to welcome a great leader in John Meyer. Leading the Big Red One has been one of the greatest privileges of my life, and I’ll always carry that with me.

🌍 Reflections on Service and Life Beyond 🌍
As I look back on my years of service, I'm filled with a deep sense of pride and gratitude. The journey has been long, often challenging, but always rewarding. Each mission, each day, has been a testament to the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of every man and woman I’ve had the honor to serve alongside. But as the chapter of active duty begins to close, a new one opens, filled with possibilities, new challenges, and opportunities to continue making a difference. The values instilled in me by the military, integrity, honor, and a commitment to something greater than oneself, will guide me into this next phase.
