Arlington residents that believe we have plenty of apartments need to know that our ability to keep apartments in areas zoned for them was stolen by your Texas State Legislators in its last session. Not only did they approve building apartments in almost all commercial zoning categories, but doubled down by allowing them to be built to the minimum requirements, which would not have happened through our PD (Planned Development) process. Arlington was able to add a few sensible requirements through judicious changes in our UDC to help offset the broad allowances given by the legislature. I’m hearing that the legislature may go after these common sense additions in the next session rather than the common sense alternative of repealing SB840. Two cosponsors of this travesty were Turner and Talarico. They obviously didn’t understand that what we were working for locally was to lower your residential property taxes by bringing in more commercial development. Enough rant for now.

Residents can now find information on the City’s website about apartment complexes and mixed-use developments in Arlington that have been approved, or are pending approval, under Texas Senate Bill 840.

Arlington will hold a free paper shredding and electronics recycling event on Oct. 3, on the southeast corner of Mitchell Street and Cooper Street (UTA parking). Proof of Arlington residency will be required to participate: https://bit.ly/4iiCBZs

Paper shredding is limited to two boxes (like the size of a cardboard bankers box) per vehicle. Papers will be shredded onsite.

A new look for our police vehicles. Black with white doors is so yesterday! And being solid black will make repair cheaper and resale better. It isn’t all about looking cool and fierce.
