We can’t wait for the opening of our new exhibition, “Craftsmanship from the Hills: Furniture Traditions of Arthurdale” on November 20. But until then, we’re excited to share our team’s favorite pieces from the exhibition. Which one is your favorite?
Elizabeth: Desk made from scrap wood from the Ballard Aircraft Co, made by Clarence DeGolyer. Donated by the DeGolyer Family. “I appreciate the creative reuse of materials!”
Kenny: Round coffee table, donated by the Wilson Family. “I like the uniqueness of the design.”
Tabatha: Jewelry box, made by Michael Mayor. Donated by Stephen Mayor. “It stands out to me as unique but still simple. I love its shape!”
Corissa: Mahogany vanity with mirror and stool. Purchased from the Lunetta Family. “I love the scalloped edges on the vanity!”
Kendyl: Luggage rack, donated by Jeanne Rymer. “It’s functional, and I like the customizable look of the straps too.”
Lauren: Cherry tiptop table, donated by Carol Myers. “It always reminded me of a table from my grandmother that was in my house growing up where we displayed lots of family pictures.”
Mary: Wall shelf, donated by Ruby Wolfe Weaver. “I love how simple yet decorative it is. It's also very practical for storing and/or showcasing items in the home.”
This exhibition is supported with financial assistance from the West Virginia Department of Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
