Henrietta Lacks Elementary School just opened its doors on the first day of school to more than 800 preschool through 2nd grade students, making it LCPS’ only primary school.

Principal Leigh Boyd said she believes her new role as principal of so many young learners gives her the “best job in the county.” She hopes that Henrietta Lacks Elementary will be a model school, showcasing LCPS resources and lessons and how they work for primary school students. Briar Woods and Tuscarora High Schools held their Health and Medical Sciences (HAMSci) Academy white coat ceremony last week. Congratulations to the 148 students accepted into the four-year program, which aims to prepare them for future careers in health care.

Congrats to Antonio Jackson, copy center operator, for being selected as the August SHINE winner. Mr. Jackson was nominated by Jennifer Burns, the IFT at Simpson Middle School, who shared that Mr. Jackson “is always so helpful and patient when our school has certificates and programs to print. Usually, the end of each quarter and the end of the school year are so stressful, but each time, Antonio was very informative, helpful, and accommodating to our needs and timelines.”
