Hope's Place Child Advocacy Center Hope’s Place actively seeks to reduce the occurrence of sexual abuse and heighten awareness through prevention education.

We are the Child Advocacy Center for the FIVCO region of Kentucky and Southeastern Ohio who provides free services to survivors impacted by child sexual abuse and their non-offending caregivers. Hope’s Place is a victim-focused, children’s advocacy center that provides a safe atmosphere, lessens trauma and promotes healing by maximizing services through a multi-disciplinary team approach for child victims of sexual abuse. Facts:

Statistics show that 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused by the time they are 18. In other words; 400, 000 babies born this year in the United States will be sexually abused before they turn 18. Children are the victims in 66% of all sexual offenses reported to law enforcement. It is estimated that this crime is severely underreported and that the actual numbers are much higher. Sexual abuse is a genderless crime void of socioeconomic limitations. Studies show up to 90% of children who are victims of sexual abuse know their abuser and 60% of children who are sexually abuse are abused by people the family knows and trusts!

Families shouldn't have to navigate the aftermath of abuse alone. Have you ever wondered what happens when a child comes to a children's advocacy center like Hope's Place?

Our model brings together several services, including forensic interviews, specialized medical exams, trauma-focused counseling, advocacy, referrals, and support for caregivers. Rather than leaving families to coordinate each step on their own, our team works alongside law enforcement, child protective services, medical providers, and mental health professionals toward the same goal.

This approach also helps protect the child. Our forensic interviewers are trained using a nationally accredited protocol, and the interview process aims to limit the number of times a child has to repeat their trauma history. We offer all services at no cost to the children and families we serve.

Know someone who may need to understand this process? Please share this with them, and they can learn more at https://hopesplace.org/what-we-do/.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to United Way of Northeast Kentucky for their continued collaboration and support of our mission!

Through their generous grant, we are able to provide snacks to clients and their caregivers who walk through our doors. This meaningful support helps us create a welcoming, caring environment for those we serve. Many times, their time in our center is lengthy and these resources are so crucial into providing support.

We are grateful for United Way of Northeast Kentucky and their commitment to strengthening our community. Thank you for standing alongside us!

Did you know that children may be affected by violence in the home even when they aren't the direct target? During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we at Hope's Place want to help our community recognize what that can look like.

A child who needs extra support may show it through changes in sleep, behavior, school performance, or the way they handle big emotions. These changes don't always point to one cause, but they may mean it's time for a caring adult to check in.

If a child opens up to you, try to stay calm and listen without judgment. You don't need to have every answer, and reporting your concerns to the proper authorities while connecting the child with qualified support can be among the most helpful steps you take. Our advocates offer referrals and trauma-informed support for children and caregivers across Kentucky and Ohio.

Halloween is almost here! 🎃 As children head out for trick-or-treating, a few simple steps can help make the night safer and more fun:

• Choose bright costumes and add reflective tape or glow sticks.
• Make sure masks, hats, and accessories don’t block vision.
• Younger children should always be with a trusted adult, and older children should travel in groups.
• Use crosswalks, look both ways, and keep phones put away while walking.
• Check all treats before children eat them.
• Remind children they can always say no, leave an uncomfortable situation, and tell a trusted adult.

At Hope’s Place, we believe prevention education and open conversations help children feel safer, supported, and empowered. Wishing our community a happy, safe Halloween! 🧡
