Monday October 5th, we had a great opportunity to train with St. Johns Michigan Fire Department as they brought their ladder truck down to our station!

Their crew walked us through the truck, explained its features and capabilities, and demonstrated how the equipment operates. Our members also had the opportunity to go up in the bucket and get a firsthand look at how it works! ⬆️🚒

Training like this is important because it helps familiarize our members with equipment we may need to use on a mutual aid call. If we're ever called upon to assist St. Johns Fire Department and need to operate or work alongside their ladder truck, having this knowledge and hands-on experience will help us be better prepared.

A big THANK YOU to St. Johns Fire Department for bringing their truck down, sharing their knowledge, and taking the time to train with us! We appreciate the opportunity to learn from our fellow firefighters and continue improving our readiness to serve our community. 💪🏼🤝🏼

Our members spent more time training on dry hydrant operations and refreshing our skills to ensure we're ready when our community needs us!

Dry hydrants allow us to access water from ponds, lakes, and other water sources when traditional fire hydrants aren't available. Practicing these operations helps our firefighters stay familiar with the equipment and techniques needed to establish a reliable water supply during an emergency.

Ongoing training is an important part of what we do. By continuing to practice and build on our skills, we can be better prepared to respond when the call comes in.

🚒🔥 Fire Prevention at Ashley Fire / Rescue! 🔥🚒

We had a great time welcoming Ashley Community Schools elementary school students to the station for fire prevention! ❤️‍🚒

It’s always a great opportunity to teach our younger community members about fire safety, help them learn what to do in an emergency, and show them a little more about what we do here at Ashley Fire / Rescue.

A big thank-you to the students and staff for coming out to visit us! We love being able to connect with our community and help spread the importance of fire safety. 🧑‍🚒🏫

Fire safety starts with education, and we’re happy to help our next generation learn how to stay safe!❤️

We also wanted to give a huge shoutout to our own Hailey Wagner for coordinating and running Fire Prevention this year! Thank you Hailey! 💪🏼

Gratiot County Hazard Mitigation Plan Survey

🚨 GRATIOT COUNTY — WE NEED YOUR INPUT! 🚨

Gratiot County Emergency Management is asking residents, businesses, and community partners to help with the update of the Gratiot County Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP).

The Hazard Mitigation Plan helps our communities prepare for natural hazards by identifying potential risks, evaluating areas of vulnerability, and developing strategies to reduce the short- and long-term impacts of disasters on people, property, and critical infrastructure.

Having an approved Hazard Mitigation Plan also helps Gratiot County and our local municipalities remain eligible for potential state and federal hazard mitigation grant funding that can be used to make our communities safer and more resilient.

🏠 YOUR INPUT MATTERS!

Public participation is an essential part of this planning process. We want to hear directly from the people who live, work, own businesses, and serve our communities throughout Gratiot County.

Your responses will help:

• Identify the hazards that concern our residents
• Better understand community risks and vulnerabilities
• Identify preparedness and mitigation priorities
• Improve public and private coordination
• Develop strategies to reduce the impacts of future disasters
• Strengthen emergency preparedness throughout Gratiot County

⏱️ The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

📅 SURVEY DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 1, 2026

👉 COMPLETE THE SURVEY HERE:
https://forms.gle/978zAnRsWuWNFXA7A

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and then SHARE THIS POST with your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, businesses, and community organizations.

The more participation we receive, the better the Hazard Mitigation Plan can reflect the needs and priorities of the people and communities of Gratiot County.

Thank you for helping Gratiot County Emergency Management make our county safer, stronger, and better prepared for the future!

🚒🔥 National Fire Prevention Week🔥🚒

This year’s theme is:

⚡🦸🏻 “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower!” 🦸🏻‍♀️⚡

With phones, tablets, e-bikes, scooters, power tools, and other rechargeable devices becoming part of our everyday lives, it’s important to know how to charge them safely.

🔋 A few important charging safety tips:
• Use the charger and cord that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
• Never charge a device under a pillow, on a bed, or on a couch.
• Keep charging devices on a hard, flat surface where heat can escape.
• Unplug devices once they are fully charged.
• Never use batteries or chargers that are damaged, swollen, or showing signs of overheating.
• Keep lithium-ion batteries away from extreme heat and anything that can catch fire.
• Follow the manufacturer's instructions for charging and storing batteries.

🔥 Safe charging is a superpower—and YOU can help prevent a fire!

Take a few minutes this week to check your charging habits and make sure you're charging safely. A little prevention can go a long way toward keeping your family, home, and community safe. ❤️‍🚒

Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001. A quarter of a century has passed, but the memories of that day—and the lives lost—remain forever in our hearts.

We honor the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, along with the police officers, EMS personnel, military members, and everyday civilians who showed extraordinary courage and selflessness in the face of an unimaginable tragedy.

Their sacrifice and willingness to put others before themselves will never be forgotten. As firefighters, we carry their legacy with us every time we answer the call to serve our community.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🖤❤️💙
