Asotin County's Limited Yard Waste Burning season began at 9am today October 15th, and will continue through December 15th, unless closed earlier.

Burning hours are from 9am to 4pm, with fires needing to be FULLY EXTINGUISHED by 4pm. Piles are restricted to 4'x4'x3' high, and must be at least 50' away from structures. Prohibited items to burn include lawn clippings, leaves, and building materials, among other things.
The controlled burning line (509) 243-2022 should be checked prior to burning to see if conditions have changed. Air quality and weather conditions may prevent burning. Any burn can be ordered extinguished if it is considered to be a nuisance to any surrounding properties.

A clean alternative to burning is the Asotin County Regional Landfill's free wood waste disposal program, call the landfill at (509) 758-1965 for details

A Freeze Watch has been issued for our area tonight. 🥶

Colder air settling into the region will lead to some sub-freezing temperatures in areas that are still in the growing season. Monday Night and Tuesday morning (11 pm to 9 am) carries the best opportunity for freezing temperatures in the Okanogan Valley, Moses Lake Areas and L-C Valley. Take any precautions you may need to protect sensitive plants or crops.

Monday morning the Board of County Commissioners enacted Ordinance 2026-34 rescinding the county-wide burn ban effective October 1st, 2026. This coincides with the end of the statewide emergency burn ban declared by Governor Ferguson earlier this year.

This ONLY applies to recreational fires; limited yard waste burning is still NOT allowed until October 15th.

Residents are urged to continue to exercise caution when burning, fuel conditions are still dry and vegetation will carry fire. Be mindful of wind speed and direction when having a fire and have a water source readily available to be able to extinguish accidental fire starts.
