**IMPORTANT BALLOT UPDATE**
The Athens County Board of Elections would like to inform voters of an update to the November 3, 2026 General Election ballot.
Peter B. Abele, who was a candidate for the 4th District Court of Appeals, recently passed away. We extend our sincere condolences to Judge Abele’s family, friends, and all those who knew and served alongside him.
Under the timelines and procedures provided by the State of Ohio, both major political parties were given the opportunity to certify replacement candidates for this race. Those replacements have now been certified, and all ballots will be updated before Early and Absentee Voting begins Tuesday, October 6th.
Voters are encouraged to check the Athens County Board of Elections website for updated sample ballots before voting.
