When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray
table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never
charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails,
it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly.

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026 🔥
October 4–10

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is:

⚡ “Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” ⚡

Richland Area Fire Department is joining the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in reminding everyone about the importance of safely charging devices powered by lithium-ion batteries.

📱 Phones
đź’» Laptops & tablets
đź›´ E-bikes & scooters
🧰 Power tools
🧸 Toys and other rechargeable devices

Lithium-ion batteries store a large amount of energy in a small space. When batteries are damaged or devices are charged improperly, they can overheat and potentially cause a fire.

🔋 Charge safely with these simple tips:

• Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
• Charge devices on a hard, flat surface — never on beds, couches, or under pillows.
• Stop using a device if it becomes very hot, swells, smokes, or develops an unusual smell.
• Unplug devices once they are fully charged.
• Charge larger devices such as e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside and away from exits.

A few simple charging habits can make a big difference in preventing fires.

This Fire Prevention Week, remember:

⚡ CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY — SAFE CHARGING IS A SUPERPOWER! ⚡
