First graders in Mrs. Nowak's class have been learning about insects. In addition to learning many facts about insects, they had the opportunity to watch a black swallowtail butterfly caterpillar turn into a chrysalis. Students created their own diagrams of insects and labeled the major body parts. They enjoyed learning about these amazing creatures!

🍂🦊 A little teamwork goes a long way!

Our Maple Grove students put their CRISP traits into action during our Fox Den Fall Cleanup, especially stewardship—taking care of the places we share and enjoy.

With rakes and gloves brought from home, students worked together to tidy the upper and lower playgrounds, clear the paths in the woods, clean up the gardens, and organize the shed. 🌿

We’re proud of the care and effort our students put into making Maple Grove a place we can all enjoy. Way to go, Foxes! 🧡

Athens Elementary was the fortunate recipient of a service project by the Pack 350 Arrow of Light Den. The 5th graders members cleaned the playground area by relocating wood and rubber playground chips back to their designated areas after many recesses of serious play! The scouts are completing their final year of the Cub Scout program and will be bridging into the Troop with Scouting BSA early next year. AES gives a shout of gratitude to the troop members, their leaders, and parents for supporting their efforts in our community!

Jill Heier, a school board member of the School District of Athens, discusses the upcoming Operational Referendum on the November 2026 general election ballot.

On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, voters will be asked to approve an increase of $600,000 per year over the revenue limit for four years.

If approved, this referendum funding would:

Maintain educational programs and student services
Retain teachers and staff throughout our schools
Support day-to-day operating expenses such as transportation, maintenance, and insurance costs.

Maple Grove 5th graders had a huge fall harvest of oyster mushrooms! Previous to this harvest they had been monitoring the mushroom garden, ensuring they only take what is safe and occasionally adding water to our totems to keep them moist. Students brought the oyster mushrooms home to experiment with cooking them.
