The Atkinson Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Captain Andrea Fogarty and the Haverhill Police Department. Thank you for your dedicated service. Rest in peace, Captain.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Captain Andrea Fogarty after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Captain Fogarty served this department and the citizens of Haverhill with distinction for 27+ years. Throughout a long and dedicated career, she was known for unwavering professionalism, strong leadership, and a genuine commitment to the men and women of this department and the community we serve. Even during her illness, Captain Fogarty remained positive, resilient, and deeply appreciative of the support shown to her, reflecting the strength of character that defined her both personally and professionally.

Her impact on this police department is lasting, and her absence will be deeply felt. During her three decades of service, she served in multiple assignments, including Community Policing, with multiple NEMLEC units, and for a large majority of her career in our Detective division. She will be greatly missed by all of us who had the privilege to work alongside her and call her a friend.

The members of the Haverhill Police Department extend our sincere condolences to Captain Fogarty’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this time.

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY LAW UPDATE

The Atkinson Police Department would like to remind motorists of important changes to New Hampshire’s school bus safety laws taking effect January 1, 2027.

Under HB 1308, penalties for illegally passing a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing will increase significantly.

New Penalties:

* 1st Offense: Class B misdemeanor, $300 fine, and mandatory 7-day license suspension.
* 2nd Offense: Class A misdemeanor, minimum $750 fine, and license revocation of at least 30 days.
* 3rd or Subsequent Offense: Class A misdemeanor, minimum $750 fine, mandatory 15 consecutive days in jail, and license revocation of at least one year.

Remember:

* Stop at least 25 feet away from a stopped school bus displaying flashing red lights.
* Traffic in both directions must stop, as required by law.
* Remain stopped until the bus begins moving or its red lights are turned off.
* Never pass a school bus on the right.

Update -Paving complete -both lanes open

🚧 ROAD WORK NOTICE – UPPER MAPLE AVENUE 🚧

Paving is currently underway on Upper Maple Avenue between Newbury Drive and Squire Drive and is expected to continue until approximately 1:00 PM today.

Motorists should expect lane closures and minor delays while crews are working. Please use caution, slow down, and follow the directions of officers and roadway crews in the area.

Officer Mey recently stopped by a local daycare to visit with some of Atkinson’s youngest residents!

The kids had a chance to check out the police cruiser, learn about some of the equipment officers carry, and talk about what police officers do each day to help keep the community safe.

How long have you been in Law Enforcement?
I have been in Law Enforcement for almost 2 years now. I waited till I had finished my degree before beginning my career.

Favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is constantly learning new things everyday, meeting new people and being apart of such an amazing community.

Why I became an officer?
For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to have a career in Law Enforcement. Growing up I met a lot of amazing officers who were focused on helping the community and I knew from the beginning that I wanted to do the same.
